Any Fred's in this forum that aren't ashamed to admit it?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Any Fred's in this forum that aren't ashamed to admit it?

Seems that a requirement to be a Fred is to be oblivious of what a Fred is. So if you don't know what a Fred is, you are a Fred, and if you know what a Fred is, you can't be a Fred. So, any Fred's here that aren't ashamed to admit it?

If the only way to be a Fred is to not know what one even is, then how can a Fred admit to being a Fred?

I know what a Fred is, I enjoy being a Fred, and in reality, I think even having the name Fred is sad.

I really don't understand what you're getting at, so I suppose I qualify.

Well, obviously, I am proof that it can elude you even after you embrace it.

There are at least two definitions of Fred.

1. The guy riding a high-zoot bike, dressed in expensive, flashy kit, who goes for short, slow rides on the MUP once in a while.

2. The guy who pays little attention to the styles and trends (riding an old steel touring bike, dressed in a t-shirt and cutoffs), but can more than likely drop you either in speed or endurance.

Fred isn't a point, Fred is a range.

The first is a poseur, not Fred. The second definition is correct.

I wouldn't have gotten that yellow T-shirt next to my name if I hadn't openly claimed to be a Fred ... with pictoral evidence to back up my claim.

Well, that's depressing. I think I combine the two. (I'm clearly the b*stard offspring of some furtive, unholy union of a poseur and a Fred.)
