Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What type of kit??

So I want to ditch the soccer shirts now that I'm anticipating my roadie showing up any day now at the LBS and wanted to hear some sage advice on what kind of jersey to get.. I'm thinking like Team Astana?

lulz, but seriously...

That cornflakes jersey is the raddest jersey ever!
Where did you find that?

But that or the BOZO one are pretty sweet.
The corona one is too much.

You'll be fine in any of those. Fire a delicious toot on your Zounds at anyone who says otherwise.

if you are serious. Look into the mirror and decide if you need a "race cut" or "club cut" jersey. Check out Capo Forma for moderately to slightly expensive matching bibs and jerseys. Castelli has some great stuff out now as well that doesn't scream bike dork. And if you have the cash, Rapha or Assos is your best bet. Good Luck!

By having the money to buy it and the strength of character to not give a F what others say is right or wrong. If you like it and have the money, buy it.

For those of us not on a team/club, but wanting to wear matching bibs/jerseys, what options are there (besides hammer)? (not arguing for pro team kits, just curious what others do)

You've got to be ON the team ... but you can wear something other than a nike shirt. There are heaps of plain or patterned jerseys which are not team jerseys.

If you really want to wear a matching set (IMO outside of events that looks a little odd, but whatever) ... go custom ...

Wear what you like. Do not worry about the elitist's that judge you if you ride in an Astana kit. Wear what you like and support those teams that you like. If not for the fans supporting these teams, pro racing would not exist.

Whenever I'm out riding, it seems like most people have some sort of full kit on (not of pro teams I recognize). Makes me feel like I'm even more of a fred wearing my random collection of clothes.

There's nothing wrong with wearing plain jerseys. Voler jerseys are good quality. https://www.velowear.com/products/1010062BLKXSM.aspx

There's nothing wrong with wearing a pink kit either.
