Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

OCP Wheel question

I'm building a wheelset...in fact, I'm building two at the end of this month.

The actual, real, substantive questions were raised in the "Mechanics" forum. You can read them if you wish:

Here.

And here.

For the Road Forum and all the diva fashion nazis here, I've saved a question - no math, no engineering, no spoke patterns...but a question completely suited to this forum:

Polished silver aluminum hubs. 30mm deep black rims with silver brake track.

Silver spokes or black spokes? I would like to thank the fashionistas in advance for your expert color advice.

Cheers!

True, but those are rims.

I just need spoke color for the silver hubs...and DT aerolites only come silver or black.

Silver spokes with the black rims, no doubt. Even better if you've got black hubs but the silver/black contrast is the schniz.

Either would look fine. I have been down with the silver/black contrast lately. Here's one that I build for another BF member recently...

PT SL with Sapim CX Ray spokes

Looks wicked....

I can't wait to get home to see the pics if it made wanders change his recommendation away from pink.

(Pics don't come through at work...)

I've built two sets with black rims and polished hubs. One set has silver spokes and the other black. They both look very nice. You can't go wrong either way...

I say if you go polished hub and black rim and want to do black spokes then use silver nipples.

Silver. Maybe throw some coloured nipples on for contrast?

Silver hubs need silver spokes, I think.

I've got a set of black DT1.1 rims with black DT240 hubs and black spokes. Those fit together.

But you've gotta go silver with silver hubs.

Color nipples = Aluminum.

Boo. I hate Aluminum nipples. Not good for the long haul.

Black.

Silver spokes radiating from a silver hub won't look nearly as good as black spokes radiating from a silver hub. The contrast of the black spokes will really draw attention the the polished silver hubs.

Silver spokes, black nipples. I'll dig up the photos of my new wheels for an example...

To provide a true OCP answer, we need pictures of the bike the wheels will be mounted on.
