The other day I saw the following two things within a few minutes. Coincidence? I'll leave that up to you...

I'm not sure I'm allowed to count this because this is the Road Biking forum and I was Mountain Biking, but a couple of years ago a friend and I were on a trail out in the woods and wandered by a couple in the middle of the act. They didn't seem to pay any attention to us as we went by.

Over the years I've seen plenty of nuts/bolts/bungees/tools like many of the others. I still have a small crescent wrench that I found on the side of a highway when I was a teenager. I've only found money once, a $1.00 bill that I've kept in my saddle bag for more than 20 years.

I found a canvas pouch with a metric spanner set in it today on my way to group ride. I stopped and picked it up and turned around and took it home (only 5 mins away), made me late for the ride then and I missed the bunch. It is a good spanner set too, not a cheap K-Mart one.

I always kind of wondered who that guy on the bike was...

I was 17, out on a training run in the hills about 20 miles east of Sac, and spotted a purse along the road. It had clearly been rifled through but still had ID, so I brought it home, found the lady's # in the phone book, called her and she came and picked it up, very thankfully.

All fine....until three cops knock on the front door. Turns out the lady she had a kid with her that said he saw the guys that took it from her car in the first place, and I looked like one of them. One cop stands on the porch on his radio, two come inside and grill me, basically calling me a liar - like, you just happened to be bicycling out there, for no reason, and we're supposed to believe that? My mom had to hire a friggin' lawyer who pled it down to something that would go off my record as a minor.

....still burns me up.

OK I'm officially raging over here thanks to your story. I will never help another human, and if you need any assistance with revenge, I'm your man.

I was riding on Broadway uppermost Manhattan (about a block from the Broadway Bridge to the Bronx) a year or two ago and took a right turn rather than stop at the traffic light. On that street I saw some cash, $6 I think. It was a windy day and something told me to follow downwind from there. A block down I picked up another twenty, then a 10 and a 1, and finally a five. $42 in all over 2 blocks. There was nobody at all around either so I couldn't see anybody that may have lost it.

I found...
the keys to a newer Jeep
a 4 inch steelhead knife that was very nice (I still have it)

Not much else unless you count potholes.

There is an avocado tree on my route. Last week there were some windfalls. I didn't take any because it's at the base of a climb and I didn't want the weight, but I seriously considered it.
