Best shop in Salt Lake?
 

Anybody know the best bike shop in Salt Lake? I've been to 2 so far- one was awesome- plus they give 10% off to U students- the other just plain sucked and ignored me. The good shop was cyclesmith. Any other shop recommendations?

Yeah, Cyclesmith guys were cool. I also liked Gutherie's in Sugarhouse. Heard good things about Wild Rose, but never been myself. I know it's not SLC, but Bountiful Bicycle Center guys were really nice, too. Really knowledgeable guys. Finally, Staats in Sandy is cool, too. The owner is a good guy.

I DIDN'T like Bingham's (any of the locations), Canyon Cycles in Draper (Canyon Cycles in Olympus was cool), and I heard good things about Revolution, but I wasn't impressed. Overcharged the crap out of me.

Bountiful Bicycle Center has always been good to me as well as Cyclesmith. I would agree about ignoring Bingham though, I've never really had a positive experience at their stores.

Bingham was good to me.

You can check out Contender, at 9th and 9th. Great shop, and there was this BEAUTIFUL gal who worked there when I lived there a couple of years ago.

I haven't been there since '94, but I liked Binghams back then. I used to go on the rides out of their Clearfield store.

I'm partial to Wild Rose: they're really customer-focused, with low pressure and smart staff. They've been great for over 20 years: I bought many bikes from them when I lived in SLC (and still order stuff from them - Tim has always been good about keeping his customers loyal).

Contender, Cyclesmith, Fisher's. Golshan's went 100% Trek and Bicycle Center is 100% Specialized. There's a Trek "company store" downtown somewhere (200 East?), trying to seem "local," but I haven't been there.

Wild Rose has always been good for me, and Fisher's seems to have the stock of hard to find parts, since they've been around forever. Have had good luck at Wasatch Touring too, though it's not a pure bike shop.

Spend your money at Cyclesmith! They're friendly and accommodating.

We had a bike fall of a rack on the way through salt lake a couple of weeks ago. Golsan's was great, provided all the assistance that they were capable of in a very nice way...but Bingham's had the parts that we needed.

I like Bingham's. Also, REI is convenient.

+1 Cyclesmith is pretty good, although sometimes undermanned. Contender has an amazing selection of really expensive bikes, not just Trek. I've always had a good experience from them over little stuff except the one time I had to deal with their mechanic, he was a clown's shoe.

Have you tried that new place on 2nd and 2nd? Salt Lake Bicycle Company I think they are called.
All I saw was Trek but I didn't look that close. Guys seemed friendly.

They're pretty cool. They have Trek and Swobo, that's about it as far as what I've seen. I took my mom in there to get her some stuff for her comfort bike and they were pretty helpful.

That got uncomfortable after a while, so I had them build up a recumbent.

I frequent Bountiful Bike Center often to waste my lunch hour away and they have always been very nice. I have bought several items there but got my bike at Golsans in South Jordan. They were nice and professional and replaced my Trek computer a week after I got it and it died. Rode in there and they swapped it out. Bike also comes with 3 years of tune-ups. Other shops probably do more but I liked these people.

Spin Cycle's a good shop. They just moved from 2300 East to about 41st South and Highland Drive.

I used to feel the same way about Contender's attitude, but it seems better these days. More of a racer's shop than for casual riders. Same for Canyon Bicycles, and I've had good luck at both their shops, but Canyon Sports, on Ft. Union is kind of a yawner, although they do rent some nice bikes.

The Highlander on Highland and about 34th South is a good, small shop. Been around for a long time, nice folks.

Guthrie's in Sugarhouse is good, especially for Cannondale.

I bought a LeMond from Fisher's and liked the process. Pretty good store but they've developed a bit of a hipster attitude. ymmv.

Always had good luck with Wild Rose and Cyclesmith, and as Strong Bad said, REI's convenient (you can get stuff there on Sundays).

Salt Lake City Bicycle, on 2nd and 2nd, seems a good place, but as mentioned, it's kind of a Trek store, so selection is limited. They had a women's workshop there a couple of months ago so my wife took a bunch of her friends down and ended up with a free pair of Oakleys. It's now her favorite shop. :)

I almost bought a Felt from Bikers Edge in Kaysville. Great selection of bikes and nice people. Worth stopping by if you're in the neighborhood.

Apparently I spend too much time at the LBSs. :o Oh well.

Any of you guys riding with the Contender crown this tuesday? I think they go to RMR for the Crits. I might go just to check it out.

I'll be at RMR, but in the lowly C group at 7:00. Not enough time to ride home before dark after the race yet, so I have to drive. Mom gets mad.

Probably not. I've spent all winter drinking beer and snowboarding, so I'm not in the shape to be racing just yet. I was just going to watch and get a feel for how it's all done. I haven't been to one yet.
