Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ebay Buyers remorse

On calm reflection, I'm not really sure I want to win this.

https://cgi.ebay.com/FELT-B2-Triathlo...QQcmdZViewItem

Feel free to outbid me. By the way you'll need to do better than $250.

My current TT bike is a Griffen Vulcan. I have two issues with it. It's just a little bit too big for me, and the front derailleur braze on is broken.

So my thought process was that rather than repairing the Vulcan, to look for another frame cheap that was a better fit.

I'm thinking with this Felt, I may have sold myself a bit short and end up with a bike that isn't as nice as the Griffen.

I made the offer, I'll live with it.

However, one thing that irks me is that when you enter a maximum bid amount you ought to be able to reduce that to the amount actually bid (i.e the current bid is $171, but my maximum is $250. )

I see no harm in reducing authority for a maximum bid, not yet placed. However, I don't see an obvious way to do this on Ebay.

I'd build that frame up as an aero road setup..it only has a 76 degree seat tube, put a set back post on it, drop bars...think low budget Soloist.

if you win it, you could probably sell it as a BIN and make a little profit. 56 is a popular size. if it's really a felt

As far as I know, you can retract your bid if you enter the wrong amount. If you feel bad enough, just bid again for less.

You don't?

Regardless, it's perfectly within your right to retract the bid...

Use a sniping program and you can change/cancel your bid up to a few minutes of closing.

Haven't you even figured out how to bid on Ebay. Any smart person has figured out that you never bid on Ebay until the last few seconds (ie. sniping). What is the sense in bidding up the price before the end. It is amazing to see how many people haven't figured this out.

Here is a good Ebay tutorial that will help you (to get things cheaper).

I'm guessing the snipers will get a hold of that for more than $250.

The B2 is a pretty highly regarded frame in tri-land, at least. Personally I like the steeper seat tube angle of, say, a cervelo, but that's because I need all the help I can get on the run!

Yeah, my "early" bid certainly has created a lot of auction fever. If your willing to invest the time and effort, bidding at the last second perhaps makes sense. However if your time is more valuable, then simply entering your max bid and letting nature take its course is a lot easier.

And the guy who wrote that brags about winning 97% of the auctions he bids on, which tells me that he pays too much.

The times I've got bargains on ebay, its been by bidding on the same item in a number of different auctions, until I finally win one at a price I'm willing to pay.

Actually great advice.

If you are not using a sniper program on E-bay you are doing it wrong.

Here is a quote from that Ebay tutorial I linked.

"Early bidding, the worst sin on eBay, jacks up prices for everyone. Sellers and eBay love it, but if you want to pay the best prices and win, never bid before the last moment"

I have also discovered Ebay for cycling needs. I currently have my eye on a madone frame that I hope is invisible to everyone but me. I'm not optimistic.

I just did my cardinal sin and bid on a bike 3 hours before the auction end, I normally use a snipe to bid 2 seconds before!
