mph vs km
how do you have your cycle computer settings?
I just switched it to KM so I can get a better gauge while watching the pros on the TV, I suck at converting to mph in my head. For cool style points I also switched the language to french which looks good. Dont belive me? "Le heure" looks alot better on the display than plain old "time" Dont even think about switching the language to Italian unless you have a full campagnolo groupset or an Italian frame. You will actually get the opposite effect and lose any style points if you break that rule |
mph x 1.6 = km/h
|
English and miles. I wish my Garmin had Italian, but only English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
Velocita sounds so much cooler than speed. |
English and miles.
I use rough approximations 40kmh = 25mph Do the math from there in your head. 20kmh = 12.5mph 60kmh = 37.5mph (~40mph) ect.. |
mph. I'll switch to kmh when I hit 62 mph, so it can read 100!
|
We use the metric system here, so for me it is a no brainer. Somehow, kilometers seem natural to me for bikes, a 100 km ride sound so much better than 62.5. As for language, even though I speak French well, I just stick to plain old English. The idea of using Italian or Spanish does appeal, cycling terms in those languages seem so exotic.

mph. I need to know if i'm speeding.
|
I don't display speed. Distance I view in miles.
|
When trying to measure small increases in speed, I went to kph to get better granularity. Now that I can't go fast anyway, I'm in mph.

I ride faster in km/h |
A rate of speed versus a distance? What kind of question is this?
A weird one. But even so, I'll take distance every time. |

Unless by "rate of speed" the OP means "acceleration", which would be technically correct as a=dv/dt |

Unless by "rate of speed" the OP means "acceleration", which would be technically correct as a=dv/dt 2. a certain quantity or amount of one thing considered in relation to a unit of another thing and used as a standard or measure: at the rate of 60 miles an hour. |
could be acceleration, which is rate/speed, m/s/s

ringraziamento there are people on earth that still use MPH? the metric system has been in use since the 1700s. |

Is there an international language on the internets for speed measurement? Besides KBps, that is?
