Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

if you want to draft, just do it. no one cares in Ottawa, there's no ego. besides, if anything goes wrong, you go down, not them.

See active thread regarding "drafting ethics". I will add that the bolded statement is not necessarily true. I have been run into from behind coming to a stop.

Keep in mind that looking back after passing someone necessarily a "dropped you jelly legs" look, I do it to make sure the person I passed didn't macho up and pick up the pace so I want to make sure I've completely passed him.

Ahh, the magic of testosterone. It only takes a tiny bit to transform a nice boy like you into a reader of all minds, überteacher of lessons, better than all others, center of the universe.

And I don't buy for a moment that you fell accidentally. You did that deliberately, so to awe us with your superior entertaining abilities!

I was just finishing a 90 mile hill ride today and was winding down on the last 2 mile flat section before my house and some ******* passes me thinking he was Lance Armstrong. I was sure it was some newbie that had just left home for his usual 10-20 mile ride on the flats.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was you.

You have to at least be riding together. It doesn't have to be an officially scantioned "raced" but I think most group rides would count. If you are riding with a bunch of friends and you can't keep up you have been dropped. If you are riding along and some guy passes you, you have not been dropped.

This thread reminds me of when I had my 2006 Mustang GT and the rice burners would rev on me at a stoplight and want to race. Only difference is bikes are people powered. The CAAD 9 did not drop carbon. YOU dropped the guy on the carbon bike. Enjoy passing a guy up that most likely had no intention of racing you and like someone else said wait your turn getting dropped by some Clydesdale on a cruiser from Any of the various Mart stores

OP let me understand this.

you stopped, had a drink, then drafted behind a stranger (who may have been cooling down from a 200km training session) then blast by him without sharing the work. and you are proud because he may have spent more than you on his bike?

i would keep my mouth shut about this. how old are you?

at least FREDs enjoy cycling culture, are trying to get fit, appreciate gear and ride in groups.

you are worst than a FRED.

just my opinion.

He's enthusiastic I guess. Once he is in an actual race, he might be humbled. But yah, it's not like the op was even riding with this guy, so technically he didn't exactly drop him, he just passed him. Also someone point this guy to the drafting ethics thread, lol. I've passed a few CAAD9s on my route. Honestly it doesn't mean anything to me, because they could be on their 100th mile for all I know, or maybe they are doing a recovery ride...who knows. Of course my bike is better any ways

So I am sittin in a bench at the park, just enjoying the sun and feeding the birds, when this Fred riding a CAAD9 stops over to get a drink. He's wearing this $30 bell helmet and a windbreaker.

Anyway he gets back on the road and this roadie who was just finishing a 90 mile hill ride, in full kit, riding a generic looking carbon bike flyes pas him.

The roadie looks back at him, and in like three seconds the Fredd is drafting him. He sucks his wheel for a few hundred yards and then passes him HARD like he was Lance Armstrong with a smug look on his face.

So any way, my CAAD keeps phantom shifting the caseette when I'm on the small chaingear. Need to get it adjusted because its really annoying.

Oh, and I fell for the first time. Going down a road in a business park and all the heavy equipment was out cleaning the grounds.. there was a lot of debris on the road so I stopped to pick my bike up and carry it to the other side of the street and I was on the ground before I could remember to unclip I'm not sure if the dude driving the street sweeper saw me because he was looking backwards out his window
Wow. And you felt compelled to start a thread on an internet forum about it. Did the guy you obsessed with see you go down?
