Almost always filter, respectfully and so that i never slow down traffic. Did it on my motorcycle as well. If motorists have problems with cyclists following the law then that is there problem.

In the UK I believe it is ok for motorcyclists and cyclists to filter.

Wow, that surprises me with motorcycles.

Do you "filter" to the front, at red lights ?

I go to the right front of the line or as near to it as I can get as I dont like sitting in the traffic lane giving some bozzo on a cell or text messaging while driving a surburban a chance to crunch me. What I have found is that many intersections are not perfectively square and some have roadways that signicantly narrow and or have dangerous conditions such as oversized sewar covers or potholes that cyclists should be as concerned about than where the sit in traffic.

If the guy behind me races me to the stop light and isn't turning, I'll go in front of him and get in the middle of the lane, just to return the favor.
If he races me to a stop sign and the coast is clear, I'll blow the sign and get in front of him, again to return the favor. Otherwise, I stay behind the cars that passed me, and stake my place by being in the middle of the lane. |
Depends on the specific situation, but I will do it most of the time on the bicycle and the motorcycle.

I disagree somewhat. Unless it's a very long line, I can go the same speed as traffic until we're already through the intersection, where I can safely pull to the right and let cars go by safely.
It depends on the situation, but I usually don't filter because it just means those cars have to pass me yet again. I've also noticed that I get a lot more respect from drivers when I'm acting like a vehicle. |

Yes, filter to the front, but don't block the cars. If you wait in the lane behind the cars then you are just going to block the ones that come after you when the light changes.
Go to the front and then drift right while you clip in. Then filter back in after the first swarm of traffic has gone buy. Everyone's happy. |
