Does not compute.

AIT (Advanced Individual Training) = 8 to 20+ weeks (depending on the training)
I doubt that the Drill Sergeants give people too much extra time to go cycling.

hrm, you guys make him sound bad. I read his blog, he sounds like a really nice guy. I actually feel bad for him. He isn't having the best life in the whole world, what would it hurt to unban him. He obviously loves cycling and he seems to dream a lot about you guys and the forum. I vote for him to be un g-lined.
g-line = permi-ban on IRC

Anyways, the water is long over the dam. I hope his Army career is successful.
I still do wonder how decisions are made to ban people. Surely, it's not completely arbitrary (ab)uses of power by some Mods?

I'm a tad surprised that this thread isn't locked (yet).
Perhaps this is the beginning of the unbanning of he who can not be mentioned?

I've long thought it was rediculous that he was banned. There are just as many people today that clog the forums with useless banter as there was then. The banning solved nothing, and still believe that it should never of happened. At the very least, it's been more than long enough to remove said ban.
And banning people for asking him to be unbanned? Wow...how extreme can you take it? Lighten up folks, this is the internet.

As a reply to someone else talking about why he hasn't ridden in quite awhile. Being in the military myself (Marine Corps for 8 years, Army National Guard for 3), I completely understand it.
He would have zero chance at riding his bike during basic. During his AIT (where he is training now) he would have a chance to ride, but it would be very little and most likely would come with stipulations.....such as not being able to be away for longer than 30 minutes, 1 mile, ect from his barracks.
It can vary depending on his drill sergeants, but until he gets to his first duty station he'll very likely have little free time.
Time will tell as to whether he really loves the sport or not.
If you are reading this, Ryanf, I'd reccomend putting half your paycheck into an untouchable savings account or the Thrift Savings plan. Use 1/4 to save for something you really like, such as a top of the line bike. Use the remaining 1/4 for your cost of living expences and play cash. You'll appreciate this greatly when you get out and have a hefty savings to fall back on.
