Advice for a new rider

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Advice for a new rider

Looking for advice to buy a new road bike for a beginner. After doing some research, I narrowed my bike choice to either a Giant Defy 1 or Specialized Allez Sport. Input on my choice or recommendation on other choices would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Real advice: Try a bunch of bikes and get one that fits you well from a store that is decent, get bike shoes and pedals right away too.

BF advice: we are going to yell at you, flip it, get a caad9, and htfu.
