finally found the cause of my slow leaking tube

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

finally found the cause of my slow leaking tube

The rear tube on my Allez has been causing me fits for the last few months and I had been lazy and not fixed it and just rode the Tarmac most of the time instead. Well, the leak got worse over the week and I decided to start looking for where it was coming from. couldn't find any spot on the tube where it might be coming from and couldn't hear or feel anything (WTF?) put the tube back on and still was leaking after a day of sitting (like leaking empty). again off come the tube and look again , nothing! back on and again a slow leak. the third time I took the tube off and aired it up and put it in my pool and it turns out that the area where the rubber meets the stem was seperating, so cut the tube up and slapped on some new tubes (swapped both front and rear out to make sure I didn't have a similiar problem with front that was changed the same time as rear) .

anyway, just another place to look for a leak on a tube.

You have a pool, I feel no sympathy for you having to buy another $3 tube

Except that proper pool maintenance is about $3 a day...

By the way, please tell me where you get tubes for $3.

Goto PerformanceBike, they seem to be on perpetual sale around here. Maybe $3.99 though.

Yeah, the tube that was leaking is a Specialized plain ol' cheapo tube. The replacement tubes were some of the conti tubes I had laying around.

if you got a hook up for $3 quality tubes let us know.

So...how many times did that leaky tube go on and off the rim before you put it under water?

New tubes are your friend.

I find that Performance tubes have a huge problem separating from the valve stem and I avoid them now. I generally buy 10-packs of tubes on ebay, looking for the quality brands. I also look for ones without threaded stems.
