so-
it looks like i'm shopping for a fuji and not the one i had hoped to get (the roubaix pro) because it only runs up to a 61cm. :: sigh :: practically the only option is a roubaix..

but recently i saw an '03 team (ultegra, but just x-fusion - no carbon stays) for $1050 on ebay. That's similar to the price of a new roubaix using the performance coupon (stays, but no x-fusion and just 105).

which is the better value and which would be more comfortable? the '03 team is almost 2lbs lighter - which is pretty damn light, but i'm not a racer. no tax on ebay, but free tunes from performance... that's a push i guess.

these are pretty much the only bikes i can find at 64cm and while i was hoping to get a triple i can live without it if the deal is good enough as it's not too hilly in DC where i live.

what would you do?

Go for the team if you can get it. The XFusion frame is better than the Altair (sp) and the Ultegra would sweeten the deal.

I agree - the Team is better. I'm riding a Team Superlight that is all aluminum (carbon fork) and I find it really comfortable.

Performance has the (alu) Roubaix on sale right now for $985. Less 20% is $788.

i'm there!

i missed the auction on the old team anyway and i'm kinda broke as it is.

thx rad - you're the perf deal ace!

okay okay, so i'm trying to make this deal work and i'm having some disconnect issues.

the performance 800 number knows the 20% off coupon, but can't order fuji's and doesn't deal with bikes other than the tirenno (performance brand). on the other hand, the retails stores (there are many in my area) are happy to special order the bike from the fuji warehouse but are unfamiliar with the coupon (which is a deal breaker for me).

does anybody know where the coupon originates that is referenced in this thread?
http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=53054

the girl at the store is trying to sort it out, but the red phone isn't going to be a factor because their warehouse isn't involved. she was saying if i could show where the coupon came from it'd be helpful.

it might have been better to be more low profile about this, but it's difficult since i'm ordering a 64cm bike and using a coupon number that the only ppl who can get it for me have never heard of.

so any help about where that coupon came from??

got a bit more info and the news is not so good:

the store manager talked to a district manager who said that the printable coupon that he'd actually accept originated at a 'sea otter event in california' and was for 20% off accessories and 10% off bikes. he's not going to honor the code by itself.

so somebody would have to have a paper version to scan in for me to just get 10% off, otherwise it doesn't work at the store for me.

That sucks. Sorry for the hassle. Is it still worth it for 10% off? If so, plead your case...tell them you had it and lost it or something similar. I would think they would want to sell you a bike and get the potential future business than to see you walk out the door.

Have you looked at the Tirenno's? They've only been on the market for a couple of months and although I'm not familiar with them personally, I am familiar with Colorado Cyclist's house brand - Douglas - and find them to be an excellent value.

I'll bet you my rear skewer the Tirenno's are made by a major manufacturer and re-badged - meaning they could be good. The component mix seems nice. They are on sale right now too and if you can order it online and get the discount, it may be worth checking out.

Also, post your request in the deals forum and see if somebody can get you a copy.

Keep pluggin'

i appreciate it, but i think i'm beating the proverbial dead horse. the dude isn't going to honor for 10% unless i have a coupon looking thing to hand him - he was clear to the point of being a jerk.

the tirenno's don't quite work out because the only one that isn't just an alum frame is the razza 1000 and it's only avail up to 62cm anyway. the main reason i was looking at the fuji's was that the team and roubaix are avail in my size- 64cm.

out of luck again for now though.

thx though..
