A ride with my father

My father and I headed into the mountains and did a 87.4 km ride today. :) I wanted to do another ride in the Rocky Mountains before I leave ... so this was it, or maybe one of a few last rides.

The weather sites were predicting a fairly high possibility of rain, and it was overcast when we started, but it cleared up a bit by the end and actually turned out to be quite a nice day.

It was beautifully quiet out there ... hardly any traffic and hardly any people. :) There were times all I could hear was the noise my bicycle was making as I rode ... so peaceful!

These are some of the photos from the ride:

It's nice that you and your dad can get out and do something like that. Great pictures by the way. I haven't seen a mountain like that in such a long time. Around here all we have are chaparral covered hills for the first 60-100 miles.

I like especially this picture

. I'm not too sure why. But I do think it's funny that the sign says PU with an arrow pointing at your dad. Hopefully unintentional.

Very nice. You're a lucky lady, Machka.

This is very cool. Looks like a great ride. My father (62-ish) rides with me and can sometimes kick my tail at the end of a century. One of my favorite memories with him is doing a centuy on the cross bikes that had 60 miles highway/40 miles offroad. It was a blast and was wonderful to share with my dad. Here is a shot of us at last year's Moab Century.

Beautiful, Machka! My daughter just got home from college last night, and we sat up talking biking with her boyfriend until the wee hours. She's 18 and I'm 51, so I should be able to keep up, though she always drops me on the hills. I think I can outlast her on distance, however. I've been working on it, anyway. Ever since you told me about nutrition and hydration last summer, I've been doing the long (50-100 mile) rides with relative ease. Gotta get the young lad onto a road bike this summer.

I drop my father going up the hills, but he sails by me going down the hills so it all works out. :)

Glad to hear the nutrition and hydration advice is working. :D

That's great! I'm moving away from my father ... to the other side of the world, but I hope he keeps up with the cycling so that any time I come for visits we can get out for a ride. I love cycling in the mountains here, and hope to come back and do more of it with my father. :)
