Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My tan is currently peeling. I need an alarm to remind me to reapply sunscreen ever couple hours on these rides.

I just read in "Roadie" many folks lay out in their shorts to improve their cycling tans. Is that true? It's hilarious if it is .

I agree with the OP. I've actually had people ask me if I tan. I do, fairly quickly as a matter of fact and have to use suntan lotion. Don't have one to show right now though....

i'll have to get back to you in a few months - we're just now getting our first bits of sun for the year.

btw, Mike V, your pic has a strange amateur porn quality to it, what with the pants around your ankles and all!

Yes, that is totally true. I used to do brevets with a guy (who will remain nameless for his own protection!) who in the early spring would lay out to get a "good start" to his tan lines. He wasn't the only one I knew who did that.

Wow so much win here.

My tan lines are permanent now since the last two summers of riding. It's totally weird. I used to just have a farmer's tan from wearing t-shirts, but now the arm lines are way higher because of the jersies (wtf is the plural of jersey?!).

Not here. The UV index has been 10+ for several weeks. I got tanned in one ride when I rolled out at like 1pm.
