Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

removing stripped seatpost collar? uh oh.

surprised to not find this in the search function... Yeah.. so I have a stripped seatpost collar on the bike I just built my girlfriend.. I tightened it once and now it's stripped.. I have no idea when it happened.. maybe when it was in the shop for headset install, I don't know. Now how the heck can I get this thing off. I've tried hammering it off by using a hammer with another hammer's wooden handle in between but while it's moved the rear side up, i don't really have anywhere to hit on the front side (without the bolt)

PLEASE HELP!!

pictures would be helpful. if a bolt is stripped (assuming the head )then it has to be extracted one way or the other. sometimes you might be able to get a screw extractor in there but most likely you will need to drill out the bolt head. once the bolt head releases you can spread the collar out and unscrew the remainder of the bolt with pliers.

Cut it off. It's probably aluminum. Use a hacksaw, or even a pair of dikes to nibble away at it. It's shot anyway.

And no, not this pair, though it might not be a bad idea if you're not particularly handy with tools.
