carbon or ally wheels
Hi, I can buy a mavic carbon SL like new very low mileage... (demo wheels) 900$$
or brand new mavic R-SYS.. 800$
but I dont know ... I have a neuvation R28 aero 4 for the moment, my weight is 180 lbs
according to you which one is better..

If the roads you ride on are mostly flat, go for the Cosmic Carbone SL. If your routes are hilly, go for the R-SYS.

it'S pretty hilly.... here not racing but serious training ... I can buy a ksyrium Sl (with red spoke)
for 650$ brand new... maybe it's good too ??

Aren't the mavic R-SYS recalled? These might be new and improved, but I would be hesitant to buy a wheel that was once recalled.

I use alloy wheels for training. I don't care about an added half pound or being a little less aero. I do care that my wheels work 100% reliably so I can get my ride in.

+1 for the Cosmic Carbone SL... very smooth, bombproof and pretty good in hills too.
One downside to the Carbone SLs (and to aero wheels in general) is you get blown around a bit when faced with strong sidewinds and gusts... you have to pay more attention. Another downside of the Carbone SLs is when you suffer a flat on the road. Mounting the tire can be a pain in the rear... compared to my other wheels (Aksiums, Ksyrium SLs).

It's irrational and I know they've been redesigned, but I would never put R-Sys wheels on my bike. I know that normal wheels can and do fail too, but those seemed to fail in such blazes of glory...

No way would I run a wheel that will explde if you break a spoke and have to go back to the factory to get trued.
Cosmic Carbone SL are as close to bomb proof as a carbon wheel gets.

either umd or zecannon had some more reports about RSYS wheels continuing to fail this last weekend. I'd look around for the details - in the race report thread maybe?
