Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think that Shimano shoes are the best bang for the buck of any cycling shoe. They are stiff and comfortable. If you buy the moldable Shimano shoes, I hear you can get a excellent fit.

I have a three year old par of Shimano SH-151 shoes in a "E" width. Other than Sidis, Shimano is the only shoe that I have found, off the shelf, that fits me.

You can probably find a pair of SH-R300 for around 225.00. The SH-R300 were Shimano's top of the line last year and sold for 350.00.

Shimanos are very good shoes. In fact, shimano made and still makes carbon soles for other shoe companies.

I have spoken with a former shop owner in Logan, UT where I use to live who could basically have what ever shoe he wanted. He told me that Shimano shoes were the best out there for large feet. He wore a 48 wide shoe. For what it's worth.

Actually, they are one of the best shoes for wide feet. They make a wide version or mega like Sidi does. I tried on dozens of shoes and only Sidi mega and Shimano wide shoes fit me.

I have an old pair (15+ years) of shimano MTB shoes, can't remember the model. They look pretty ratty, barely any tread left, but still work great on my trainer. Since I just got a road bike I got some SH-131's, I have a wide foot and they fit very well, the toe box is also nice and roomy (I think roomier than most). They have excellent carbon soles, they say it takes 1500lbs to get any flex in them (the silver CF looks great to!!)
I couldn't pass up some new SH-215' s on E-bay for $85 and they are great as well, although I think a bit narrower. But I did get them a size smaller because I sometimes use the SH-131's in cold weather with slightly thicker socks.

I have worn Sidi's since 92. I bought some R300 last year.
