If steel is real, how about..

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

"Neuron Star Crust"?

Is that the stuff that accumulates on Cpt. Kirk's Depends?

No, if you're using that stuff for a bicycle frame you lose the 'T', it refers to the brain neurons that instruct your fast twitch muscles to fire.

I saw a thing on Discovery channel yesterday (it poured raining all day) about synthetic spider webs, made from some milk from goats with spider-DNA somehow melded to their own goat DNA. Then they take the milk, and somehow make really strong fibers, much stronger than steel, etc. [seriously, who could make that up, I really saw it]. The whole time I was watching it, I was thinking about how they should try to make that stuff into a frame. I'm holding out for the goat milk/spider web bike, its inevitable that somebody will try it.

But is it laterally stiff and vertically compliant? Also, what are the weight savings between that and high modulus carbon? Group buy and I'm in.

Does that also make it not weigh a hundred million tons? Descents would be killer though...

Weight weenies beware:

Neutron stars are so dense that if you could dip a teaspoon into one of them and scoop out some of its neutrons the spoon would weigh 100 million tons.

Don't know much about spider webs, but I suspect they rely heavily on carbon-carbon bonds, very similar to CF.

Couple of amino acids...

Don't have time to look into glycine and alanine right now, but it looks interesting.
