Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Madone 5.5 vs Cervelo R3SL

My LBS still have a 5.5 madone and a cervelo R3SL. Is the R3SL worth the extra $1500 more than the 5.5 or should I stick with the 5.5 madone. I ride everyday about 20 miles and weekend for about 30+. I like the fact that the Cevelo is so light and the head tube is lower. however, 5.5 is cheaper and I might be able to spend the extra $1500 on a better set of wheel. What do you think?

R3SL if weight means anything to you. If not, bring the Madone home.

Me? R3SL all day every day.

I bought the 5.5 earlier this year. I recommend it. Spend the money on wheels.

Can you use the more 'racey' geometry of the cervelo? In other words, are you going to remove all of the spacers, flip the stem, and ride/race in the drops for any amount of time? If not, go with the trek and it's more relaxed and softer ride. If you are, go with the cervelo and it's more aggressive and stiff ride.

Your fit, position on the bike, and use of the bike matter more than what brand frame you are on, which wheels you have, or how much the frame weighs (within reason of course).

I don't think i would be able to lower the stem and position myself at a 'racey' geometry. but one thing that it struck my of Cervelo is it's low weight.

I was thinking if i get the R3, i might be better off to get a Madone pro series.
