Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

odd click in wheels

I just joined so if this is the wrong place to put this im sorry

I just bought these wheels a month ago and have put around 4-500 miles on them , white industry h2 28 hole laced to mavic open pro on sapim cx-ray spokes
the rear wheel has a odd click when rotating weighted , bearing settle ? or bad pawl ? i dont know
they where professionally built and tensioned by wheelbuilder.com and ride AWESOME but im kinda worried about the rear hub

anyone heard of this before ?

The open pro rim has a pin that joins the seam before it's welded. The pin will sometimes come loose. It doesn't affect the integrity of the wheel at all. I've got one rear wheel that suffers from this as well. I've just learned to ignore it.

Most of the Open Pro rims I've used had the loose pin. It won't hurt anything it is just annoying. It's yet another reason why I no longer use Open Pro rims.

This is making me think its not the pin because the pin would make the noise weighted r unweighted wouldn't it?

I'm thinking spoke tension.

It's not actually rattling. It's just loose. Hence, the noise is only when it's weighted. It's like a click-click-click sound once per rev.

It might be a loose spoke, but then you'd see it in the form of a wheel wobble.

This topic always makes me laugh! Whenever someone on on the forums rec Mavic OP's, I mention the annoying little tick. So may others say I'm out of my mind. Then a month later, the poster is here posting a "WTF is that noise" thread!

Happens with ride partners too. WTF is that noise? Hehehe, I can't get enough of it!

I guess I'm still the crazy one!

On my carbon tubulars, sometimes the valve stem will knock against the valve hole. Never had this problem with alloy clinchers -- but its worth trying as it will cost all of 2 cents and 1 minute. Take a 2 inch strip of electrical tape, center it over the valve stem, and bring it down over the stem, piercing the center of the piece of tape. This will secure the valve stem and prevent it from knocking.

Pedal touching the end cap thingy of the front derailleur cable? Mine does this, annoying except that it's almost inaudible.

Make sure it is the wheels. Ticks and clicks can come from your seat post, stem, saddle, pedals, and cleats. It's the weighting/unweighting of cycling that leads one to think it is in the wheels.
