Busta Quad

I get bee and wasp stings on the belly and back, mostly b/c I ride w/ 3/4 length jersey zippers down when its warm. A couple of weeks ago Murphy had his way with me, however. Near the end a of fairly hard 2 hour solo ride I was on a short decent to a crossing of a 4-lane divided highway; not the place you'd want to have trouble stopping. Wasn't going terribly fast - high 20's probably - and was maybe 30 yards from the crossing when I saw the (familiar) brown blur of a wasp and felt it hit my left hand; yeah, the one that powers the front brakes. I figured it just bounced off as usual, then, he left his calling card. Turned out he got wedged between the opening in my open-fingered gloves and the top of my middle finger, where he promptly let loose with his sting(s).

Of all the paces to be stung - the top of the finger (between the first and second knuckle) that provides most of the braking power - is where I got it.

I did manage to stop, but it wasn't pleasant.

Once while Mnt biking I was stung on the eye; it's not fun riding single track with one eye closed.

Say you have a wasp sting allergy and you get stung on the lip while riding. Holy crap, I thought my lip was going to split open from the swelling. 3 weeks to taper off of the cortisone that was pumped into me to get the swelling under control.

i had one go down my throat a couple days ago mid ride. it was a bee, but i coughed it up and it flew away. it hurt for a half hour or so i dont think it was a full on sting...don't they die once they sting something?

I got a wasp in the mouth once. Stung me right on the tip of the tongue when I spit it out. Really really painful, but fortunately I'm not allergic.

Correct. Bee's have a barbed stinger, once and done. Hornets, yellow jackets, wasps, etc. - multiple times.

I've sucked in bees and had them sting me on the tongue. Try finishing a tough century without being able to eat or drink for the last 40 miles. I was pedaling squares and had tunnel vision by the end.

I've taken a bee in the bonnet (well, helmet) and also had something bite me on the inner thigh once. For some reason, the thigh sting hurt worse. Maybe the bee didn't get a good shot at me.

The quicker you remove a bees stinger the better. The venom sac is attached to the stinger and continues to pump after it is pulled out of their body. Don't pinch, but scape the stinger with your nail or something flat if possible.

I got stung or bit or something yesterday in the mouth. Didn't get a chance to ID the bug. Right inside my lower lip.

Guess I should stop being such a creepy mouthbreather.

Too many times to remember. Worst might have been a couple summers ago, usual group ride, screaming down a steep descent at 35 mph, jersey unzipped, yellow jacket/ground hornet shot down my bibs. Between trying to mash the little sucker, keep the bike upright and slow down, I had my hands full. Just before I stopped and pulled to the shoulder, I karate chopped just to the left of the family jewels. The hornet had stung me 12 times as it worked its way down my torso, under my bibs. We all got a good laugh at that one. The worst damage was the bruise I earned from whacking myself.

Wasp got trapped between skull and helmet and stung me just above the sunglasses as it tried to escape. Swelling went down almost to the jawline, and the right eye swelled virtually shut.

Ouch.

I was walking across a pasture once and got stung right over my eye, sort of the outer end of my eyebrow. That wasn't much fun either.

Curiously, I've not been stung by anything while riding a bike. Maybe there's advantages to riding slower than the bugs can fly.

My cousin actually got stung on the eyeball by a hornet. Lucky he wasn't blinded in that eye, but seriously what kind of horrible luck do you have to have to get stung on the eyeball.

I got stung in a race yesterday while bombing a 12%+ grade (pretty short) at ~55mph.. about five of the little boogers landed near my crotch, but the only sting was on the top of my quad.. kinda hurt for a few minutes.. but the pain of the race overcame it.

Man if I had a bunch of bees around my crotch with nothing between the stingers and my precious bits but a little lycra I think I would flip out. Since nobody would be able to see the bees, just me flipping out they would think I was nuts, but thats cool

Windsurfing in 20+ winds. Stung right above my wedding ring. Finger swelled up and I could barely hang on to the boom. Thought I was going to have to swim it back in.

Alright boys and girls... Not cycling at the time. Now for my story. Should make busta guad feel better. Was just minding my own business one day when I felt a little itch on the man dingles... went for a little scratch and oh boy the fun began. When it was over it hurt like hell.... Those is the area couldn't quite figure out what the crazy man was doing. To top it off I end up with swollen man dingles like you can't imagine. Took almost 24 hours for the swelling to go down and about three for the damn itching.

Thats my story... now onto the rest of the show....
