Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Journey across America - Begins Tomorrow

It's been a long time in coming, but I'm finally leaving for New York with the Illini 4000 for Cancer team tomorrow. If anyone is interested in following us, donating to the cause, or just learning a bit more, check out our site at https://www.illini4000.org or my post in the charity forum https://www.bikeforums.net/charity-events/523120-illini-4000-cancer-2009-a.html

I'll be updating a blog at https://illini4000.org/riderbio.php?iid=NTc= and posting to Twitter at https://twitter.com/Justin_P_Taylor throughout the trip.

Big thanks to all the BF'rs for being a constant resource and inspiration and also to Greg at Velospace for becoming a sponsor and providing advertising for us https://www.velospace.org. If you're in the Chicago area listen for our ads on Q101 and The Loop!

I see from the FAQ that nearly 85% of the donations go to the charity. That sounds a lot better than some other rides that take a significant percentage of the donations to pay for the rider's flights and hotels.

Good luck on the ride.

Best of luck. I am an Illini alumni myself. If I was still there, I would be sitting among you right now. Be safe. It is a long trip.

Don't go fast while riding, you'll miss a lot. Otherwise have fun! It's a great experience
