Just watched this movie! Incredible! Only cycling movie I have ever heard of I suggest everyone check it out!

Never heard of Breaking Away?

Can this film,
or any of the other good cycling films,
be viewed online, for free?

it's on netflix, probably as close to 'free' as you're going to get.

Dude breaking away is a ****TY movie. It's awesome, and I recommend it to cyclists but I've taken baths deeper than that movie. At least Flying Scotsman had some substance in the plot.

where is your bike?

Remember how when you were a kid you could never fall asleep Christmas Eve? That's my situation right now. I think I might drink a six pack pass out so I can wake up and get to my bike quicker.

You don't think the interpersonal relationships among Dave and his father and mother weren't fairly "deep" (at least as Hollywood movies go.) Or the conflicts and motivations among his group of friends and how they are all facing (or not) the prospect of the end of high-school? Or the relationship of the townies vs. the college folks?

I think of this as a coming-of-age story with bikes as much as a movie about bikes. Now I gotta go watch it again :)

Breaking Away won an Oscar for Best Writing in 1980 and also won a Golden Globe for Best Picture - Musical/Comedy. Pretty good movie I'd say. :thumb:

As campy as Breaking Away is I still love it. Story of youth and dreams. Add American Flyers to the list :)

Breaking away is one of my all time favorites. American flyers was pretty good aswell. There is a really wacky movie called the Triplets of Bellville that sort of deals with cycling, though it is quite strange at times so Proceed with caution.

The Flying Scotsman was on PBS this morning.

Am I in some bizarro universe or something? The Flying Scotsman is "incredible" and Triplets of Belleville must be approached with "caution"? Crazy talk.

I watched it a couple of weeks a go for the first time, especially since I just got into road-bikes. Found it to be pretty interesting. Same old BS though about the regulating agencies trying to screw things up and control everything! Just like in motorcycles and car racing.

I found breaking away to be pretty cringe-inducing tbh, the kids Masi is far and away the best part.

FWIW: The Flying Scotsman is on itunes rental for 0.99usd right now.

Rae Dawn Chong almost make that stupid flick worth watching.

Almost.

I must admit that I had to use the close-captioning when I watched The Flying Scotsman. Otherwise, it would have been too difficult for me to understand the dialog.
