toss away the FSA crank for??
 

I'm swapping parts from a Scattante CFR race to a Seven Altaris frame. All the leftovers go to my little bro who recently had his bike stolen in the bronx. (Specialized s works all dura ace)

So, he'll get frame/fork/crank from the new carbon bike I just purchased.

Long story short, I don't trust carbon. I'm old school and it makes me nervous. (titanium is real too right?)

My question = I want a metal crank and am considering ultegra or dura ace so my little bro can keep the $400 FSA... Are there any other cranks I should consider? My bike will be 10 spd ultegra.

Also any tips on length would be very helpful. I am 6'1" and am looking for a 172.5 or maybe up.

Shimano's good stuff - no problems with the Hollowtech thing. If someone gave me a SRAM Red crank I'd switch, but that's about it.

On length it probably doesn't matter, but since you're building there...what kind of riding do you do - urban, crits, road, mountains, fast spinner, masher, etc?

My understanding is the crank length is a product of your femur length, among other things.

My fitter told me to get 175 or 177.5, if you get fitted you may be told which size to get.

My Ultegra Hollowtech is very nice. Much stiffer than the square taper crank it replaced.

I had FSA 'carbon' (wrap) cranks on my Felt and one broke so I replaced with 105 compact cranks and Tiagra BB and just out of curiosity I weighed the components and both the Shimano products were significantly lighter than the FSA equivalents.

Rival crank is one of the stiffest and very light. I swapped my FSA for rival and am very happy.
