Chain recommendations for a non-racer...

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Chain recommendations for a non-racer...

but a budding one. I hope to start my race career at the ripe old age of 40 or 41. I've been doing group training rides but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Okay I've used the search tool and it seems that many of you guys buy the top stuff. If I'm not a racer but want a robust chain that is smooth, what do you recommend? I have a SRAM 1090R on my bike now but it is stretched out to 1/16. I thought about a DA7900 chain but I was told by my Cat 1 roommate that unless I'm at that level, save my money. I have a Force set up with a 10spd 6600 cassette with RED chainrings.

Thanks....

KMC @ Pro Bike Kit, never buy it at an LBS, you're wasting your money.

Yes, KNC either at PBK or Ebay. Smooth and lighter than DA7900 for half the price.

I have a collection of KMC DX10's that I got into local stock - don't have to wait on crappy suppliers anymore. Can't advertise, but shoot me a line at my site if you're interested.

I can beat PBK on a ton of stuff now that their prices have gone up. I beat that SL.
