Hudson Valley .. NY.. Allergies? Swine? death?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hudson Valley .. NY.. Allergies? Swine? death?

For the past month ive been battling what I can only assume are Allergies.. with a nice sinus infection thrown in on top of that..

I havnt wanted to ride, Im tired and blah and beat.. Yet I keep riding. and for a day or 2 afterwords I have to just lay in bed and not move cause im beaten.

Im not sure if riding is helping me or not at this point.

My question you ask?

Ive been trying to have a tablespoon of Local honey and Cider vinegar in a tall glass of water twice a day.

Im looking for any other possible remedies or things that might help with allergies that i seem to have only gotten this past couple months.. Im 27.. and havnt had an allergy my entire life.. untill now.

Could it be the swine? and could I be dying? I think so at this point

I've had allergies since I was a youngin' and this is by far the worst allergy season I've ever experienced. The past couple of weeks in particular have been absolutely brutal. So, you're not dying.

I'll let others dish out the allergy advice.

Zyrtec-D and keep riding, I actually feel worse when I'm not riding.

Edit: This year has been so bad that I did go see a Dr., he told me I have allergies.

If you are really concerned, I agree that it's probably prudent to go see a doctor.

I will say that I have not had allergies, ever, until this year. I wake up with a scratchy throat...

You can develop allergies at any time in life & it has been a particularly tough spring for allergy sufferers given the numerous dry windy days here in the Northeast.

If your eyes are watery, sneezing or stuffed nose, dry scratchy throat and it's particularly noticable on dry windy days, it ain't the flu.

I would still get checked out by a doctor just to rule out anything else...

The majority of it is just a runny/stuffy nose, some scratch throats now and then and really really weak all the time, Im not tired and have no desire to sleep but I just feel like theres no energy there. Even riding im noticing im slowed down and not able to push myself very hard at all.

I setup a doc apt later this week, maybe he can shed some insight. well see.

For now.. Im still believing its a flu +Sinus infection + Swine + Allergies.. + a touch of death.. yep

For what it's worth, I think you're dying. Can I have your bike?

I live in the Hudson Valley and the tree pollen has been murder this season. It starts to abate in June once it warms up and dries out. It's getting better already.

I'll brave it this weekend and hit Newburgh to take the family strawberry picking.

It's not the swine . . . if it was any type of flu you couldn't even get out of bed, much less ride a bike.
Crawling to the toilet to throw up would be a challenge.

I actually had more severe allergic reactions riding in Central Park than up in the Hudson Valley. But yes, it seemed like was a bad year for allergies. Normally I have mild allergic reactions in Spring. This year I had watery eyes & a runny nose seemingly forever.

It's definitely a rough year for allergies here... Myself and everyone I know at work are all just suffering like *******s this year, even those of us on prescription medication like Nasonex and OTCs like Claritin.

You're going to the doctor, right? Be sure to do that.

This has been by far the worst spring ever for my allergies. If I have symptoms I take Claritin-D and in the past that always did the trick - but at times this year the bad stuff just overpowers it.
I also have a new, particularly unpleasant symptom, which is a dry cough with the sensation of my throat closing up. Not fun, on bike or otherwise.

I've never experienced lethargy as part of my seasonal allergy mix - or even heard of that. You should definitely get yourself checked out...

I have to agree with the majority of posters here-- go see a doctor!!!

I too live in the Hudson Valley and recently suffered from some kind of sinus/respiratory tract thingy. It went away after a day so I didn't see a doctor but then my three cats all seemed to catch the same bug and the oldest one died. The youngest cat recovered after about a week but the middle one is still a little bit sick.

So what you have might not just be allergies. If you are still feeling that crappy please seek medical attention. Whatever it is you have might be contagious; with luck it might be curable or at least treatable.

Hope you feel better soon!

I setup an apt with the doc tomorrow at lunch So ill go get checked out.. Everyone I speak to says their allergies and their non existence allergies are on the frits. The conspiracy theory in me, says its something the allergy medicine company's are spraying in the air to make us all run out and go buy crap for it..

The reason I feel so weak is probably because ive gained 20 pounds since my Peak of 170 last summer down from 235... and back upt 190 now.. So maybe im giving myself excuses not to HTFU..

Hey Pcad, You ever get up the new paltz way and do the 44/55 Minnewaska climb upto the state park?

Maybe if im nice the doctor tomorrow will give me some HTFU drugs and get me back on the bike
