Anyone using Vittoria Power Pro shoes?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone using Vittoria Power Pro shoes?

The local Performance store has them on closeout, marked down to $79. I'm currently using the entry-level Forte shoes, but not terribly happy with them.

Decent deal?

[edit] Oops, Pro Power, apparently.

You could get some Sidi Genius 5 for close to that price.

I don't see any Sidi's less than about $130 on google. The in-store price is $79, not $129, not sure why they're not showing up as cheap online. Usually Performance is the other way around - more expensive in-store than online.

Great show at a great price

I have the previous version of that shoe and you can't go wrong with that shoe for $80, should be a nice upgrade over what you've been using. Mine are on their way out but they've been through three winters here in Seattle.

I've got a pair of the MTB version. Like them well enough.

Careful with sizing though, although you ought to be able to return them. Here's my experience trying on different shoes, maybe it'll help you get the right size.

old Time shoes, size 43
original Specialized Ground Controls, size 43
recent Specialized BG, size 44
Sidis, size 44.5
Vittoria, size 42. Might be a bit on the small side, but 43 is definitely too big. If I could have bought a 42.5, I probably would have.

Rufus, my Fortes are 43's, and all they had were 43's in the Vittoria. They felt big with the single-layer gauze try-on socks in the store. But I did try the 42 mountain version, and I think those were a little snug.

Once I got home with my proper socks, I thought the Vittorias were still slipping in the heel a bit. I ended up deciding it was the much-smaller heel cup vs the Fortes. Swapped cleats and went for a ride.

HUGE difference. I did a 14-mile shakedown ride, and I'm happy. Stiffer, more solid connection to the bike, and more comfortable to boot. No heel movement that I could feel on the bike with the top strap appropriately tight. My toes did get a bit numb, but adjusting the bottom strap cured that almost immediately - same deal with the Forte shoes.

So I'll ride these for a while and see how they do, but I know I'm not going back to the Fortes.
