Video Time Lapse - 2008 Texas 4000 Bike Ride from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Video Time Lapse - 2008 Texas 4000 Bike Ride from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska

Hello, I am new to this forum and wanted to share the following cycling time lapse video project with you all (how do I embedd it?): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mGgGUkDwyk

This is a video time lapse from my 70 day bike ride with Texas 4000 from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska during the summer of 2008. Over 40 cyclists biked in what was the 5th year of the ride, dedicated to raising money for cancer research and awareness while spreading hope, knowledge and charity along the way.

Our team was split up into two routes to maximize the aforementioned three fold mission of the organization. I was on the Coastal route, traveling 4,569.2 miles across Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington, into Canada, British Columbia, Yukon Territory and into Alaska. I fastened a video camera on a tripod head onto my bike handle bars to capture all the footage in this video. For more information or to donate please visit http://www.texas4000.org . The 2009 team departs this Saturday and could still use your support!

I submitted this to the 2009 Bicycle Film Festival but it was unfortunately rejected so I just want to share it with as many people around the world as possible. Hope you enjoy watching!

Great video. I watched it with the sound down. But what it needs for sound is Yakety Sax, the Benny Hill theme. That would be great.

It's obviously uphill the whole way since they're going UP to Alaska. It's only downhill all the way if the map is from Australia.

Mmf, I'm a stickler but that's not "time lapse", that's just a bunch of short clips sped up and spliced together. I'd love to see an actual time lapse video of a long ride, where you can see every single kilometre of the road.

That would either take a long time to view this 70 day venture, or you'd have to speed it up so fast that you wouldn't be able to tell what's going on.

My wife and I were trying to figure out if the term "time lapse" can even be applied to a video. We know it as taking a picture of the same exact thing with time in between each shot. For example, a picture of a flower once every 24 hours.

I realize that it's not a "time lapse" in the strictest sense, but as urbanknight pointed out, with this particular project, it would have been highly unfeasible to record the entire time I was on the bike. I guess it's more of destination time lapse rather than on object based time lapse such as these photo time lapses I have recently completed in Austin, TX that you might also enjoy (watch in high quality):
