I'm not jealous...
...I just think your $8,000 road bike looks stupid.
Honestly, that's all it is. There are a ****-ton of things that I want and can't afford, but an $8,000 road bike is pretty far back on the list. I don't get envious when people post their new cross bike, mt bike or pics from their last vacation in Europe, although I'd rather have any of those by a long shot.
Now, I'll be the first person to drool at some over-the-top bike porn, as long as it's done right. And that's what people don't seem to get. Racing bike porn is not just about expensive carbon parts and matching colors. Aggressive set-up is just as important: lots of exposed seatpost and big saddle to bar drop. That's what makes pro bikes so hot.
And that's also why I'm not feeling your new Pinarello with 4 inches of spacers under the stem. That's not bike porn, that's a parody of bike porn. It's just a garish Rivendell dressed up in carbon fiber. It doesn't make me envious, it just makes me laugh, and not in a good way.
That is all. Now flame on.

I'm jealous, but I can deal. I just think of how much more upset I would be when my bike falls over and gets a scratch if it was worth 4-6x more...
Also it's a good excuse for getting dropped.
Oh and not jealous of that trek... ugh.

Laugh in silence. Your coming across bitter.
