Where to ride in Farmington, NM

Hey, I just packed up my bike in a hard case and am taking it with me to Farmington, NM...where I kind of temporarily live these days. I was just wondering if anybody around here is from that area and if they have any recommendations on where to head to. It seems like most of the biking in that area is mountain biking but I'm sure there has to be some roadies somewhere nearby...anybody?

For at least the first several days I'd have a hard time not just riding over to the river and busting out the fly rod...

Yeah, some guys in my crashpad have definitely done this already. I'm not really that interested in fishing though. I was at Yosemite and the Merced River had some really amazing looking areas that even I might enjoy doing some fly fishing in.

I lived down in Window Rock for 5 years. If you head to there or Gallup then let me know, I'll recommend some great rides.

There's a shop in downtown Farmington, though, that's pretty good from what I understand. Google should take you there.

Cool. I stopped in that shop the other day and bought some new cleats since i've mostly destroyed my old ones. It seemed like a decent shop...mostly Trek stuff in there. Guy said they have a weekly group ride that i'll probably try.

Albuquerque century is this Saturday if you want to drive out.

Oh man, that sounds awesome but I have to fly for 6 days starting on Thursday. Maybe I should take the bike with me to my overnights in California...

Just as an update, I commuted down to the Farmpit with my bike this morning and assembled it as soon as I got here and went for a short little 20 mile ride since I forgot to pack my bottle cage (good excuse to go buy a new carbon cage). I wanted to take it easy also since this is my first time riding at 5500' elevation. Well, I have to say that the climbing here is way different. The hills last longer and so do the descents. I like that. The rollers in KS are just so hard to get into a rhythm on. If anybody is ever in the Farmington area, hit me up and I'd love to go for a ride at my leisurely 18mph pace. Can't wait to bike in some more states!

Couple pics from today's ride. Only managed 26 miles as I'm still waiting for my new bottle cages to arrive. I pretty much reached the end of the paved roads in Farmington. I'm beginning to understand why mountain biking is so popular here. Anyway, my camera phone doesn't really do the view any justice but here's a couple I took today. I think the hills are somewhat steeper than the pictures show also. Oh well.

Nice isn't it? I'm not from here either, but I think it's a beautiful place to ride. Hoping to do a few more centuries this summer, heard really good things about the Enchanted Circle one:
