Powertaps are becoming ubiquitous.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Powertaps are becoming ubiquitous.

Botto,

Just curious, any reason why they aren't ubiquitous elsewhere?

Because if you're not sticking to a training plan it's a $1000 cyclocomputer that makes your rear wheel really heavy.

There is still a lot more disposable income in the US, than most of Europe.

that probably would have been my choice as well had it been around when I bought the SRM.

One need only price out a powertap disc wheel to make the decision easy.... Actually, as soon as you have an interest in using more than one rear wheel on your bike of any kind a crank-mounted system starts to make a lot of sense...

i just bought a powertap. i couldnt justify the cost of a quarq since i would need the quarq, cranks, and a garmin 705. either way the powertap build will come in at 1700g or so which isnt overly heavy and the benefits from the power meter outweigh the 200g savings from a relatively common and standard 1500g set of road wheels.

I suspected it was the simple answer (money). But deep down I was hoping that it was because a PowerTap can't measure the will of a Belgian on cobbles.
