Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Jameson Road in Santa Cruz, California. Just when you start to think it's too steep to climb, it gets steeper!

Another one in Newfoundland. There are maybe 5 or 6 curves over 20km and several minutes between cars:

Does empty roads looking behind you work..? Yesterday's ride.. Well.. The first one is looking ahead.. The road is sort of hidden by the brush.. The other two looking back towards the sea.

I know flat country roads aren't quite as exciting as most of the others posted here, but this road used to be as rough as cobblestones. The last time I rode on it, smooth fresh pavement.

This road yesterday (GMR). 4 cyclists, 2 motorcycles and one bus! Not bad over 42 miles.

One of my favorite open road shots:

Glendora Ridge Road in the mountains above Los Angeles. You can ride for 30 minutes on it at times without seeing a single car.
