Ha, that's what I usually try to do and then the wind changes on me and I'm screwed either way.

For whatever reason, every morning my commute into work is into the wind and by the time I leave to go home, it's changed and I have a headwind again. If we ever move, I'm buying a house on the other side of town.

When? Never. It's Shopped.

To get the Moon that size, you've got to shot it with a big telephoto lens, and or crop it down from a bigger picture and enlarge.

The road and foreground look like they were shot with a normal angle of view or a moderate telephoto.

The moon just doesn't show up that big in landscape pics. For example:

That's what I was thinking too! I rode in Mechanicsburg, PA the same day and we had 14 mph winds... still averaged over 18 mph on a 40+ mile ride, but a lot of it weren't fun! LOL

Road To Nowhere - Supermoon Photograph by Aaron J Groen - Road To Nowhere - Supermoon Fine Art Prints and Posters for Sale

Doesn't mean it's not a composite image.

It appears that Groen's technique is to use composites of two shots. Hence, my point that the foreground was shot with a different mm lens than the moon.

Here's an example of his composite work:

And Road to Nowhere is also in fact a composite image:

I'm following you...was just pointing out that its just a random photo from the net, not even related to biking. Still, it's nice to look at. Nothing wrong with your shot either.

I took a picture of the blood moon with my iphone the other night. It's pretty much just an orange dot in the middle of a black screen. I was too lazy to break out the good camera at 1am.

merlinextraligh 04-16-14 12:36 PM

that wasn't my photo, just pulled to illustrate that a normal angle of view lens gives a much smaller moon.

I have a few weeks off from work. Hopefully I can enjoy more views like this!

I have ignored this section of the forum because I thought it was road bike and didn't realize it was road cycling. Since I'm now riding on the roads instead of the bike trail, I'm going to visit this daily as well.

Went out last night and took the camera with me specifically because I saw this thread. Just have to pull the photos, process them, and select what I want to post. Beings I live out in the middle of nowhere, anything I shoot will sure to definitely be empty. Though on a dirt road in the middle of the woods in the middle of nowhere, some ritzy looking woman goes buzzing by me kicking up a cloud of dust gabbing on her cell phone. Usually it's backwoods country 4 teeth rusty 2WD pickup driving folks passing by and they all slow down to not kick up as much dust and wave to me. Not the cell phone wielding 2 year old fancy SUV kickin up dust driving 50 mph on a dirt road ritzy *****.

Really cool thread. Love pictures of the roads.

Does it still count as empty if there is a tractor on the road?

I'll count it and worse yet... it's really making me want to get a gravel bike together!

Yeah, I don't have a gravel bike. This was on my road bike with 23s, but I couldn't resist the pull of the gravel so I kept going straight where I usually would turn off. I did about 5 miles like this with gentle rollers. I did hit a few loose spots were my road tires wanted to go out from under me and when I would stand up to power up the hills my back wheel would spin out, but man was it fun.

Edit: Decided to do more gravel today on my recovery ride.

That looks like dirt to me, not gravel. I'm on my tablet though.

Looks like the roads I ride. I took the camera on Thursday but haven't had a chance to upload yet.

Quoting this again...

So I was having dinner with my wife the other day and I was telling her that I went out on some gravel roads again. She told me, "You need to get yourself a gravel bike." I agreed with her that I most definitely did need to get one. However we both agreed that it's not happening this year since I just replaced my road bike. Still I'm making progress.

Very nice!!! I accidently ended up doing gravel riding Saturday on some 23C Ultremo ZX Tubeless. Not a fan on those tires!!!

Sunday I did a lot of driving through western Wisconsin in perfect riding weather down perfect riding roads passing people riding and I was so jealous.

mrodgers 04-24-14 05:19 AM

I was out the other day with the camera. Unfortunately it was with the junk pocket P&S rather than my manual control camera. Most of my roads are dirt, sand, and gravel....

K1196A - That shot would be up at Hocker Park, looking back down towards Linglestown, correct? The climb up to there from Fishing Creek Valley road is a brutal s.o.b.!!!!! I ride my time trial bike out there from the Blue Mountain Hotel (sorry...."Felicita") to the elementary school as a training route, and pass through there from Fort Hunter to Indiantown Gap (or the Racetrack, depending on which route I'm taking) on my regular road bike all summer long. Love riding through there! Great country road with very little traffic!! Great shot!

County Road 18 (Goodhue County, MN) - Can see a couple parked cars belonging to some fishermen.

Zoomed in shot of the climb. Some cars snuck in so it's no longer an empty road ahead photo...

I got a PR on the climb 07:43!

Yes, Sir... You are correct! I do hate that climb; although, I'm not sure it isn't worse from the other direction!!! LOL

I ride up Fishing Creek Valley fairly often as it is close to home. If you haven't done the climb up Robert's Valley Road (off of Front St. near the Rockville Bridge) I would highly encourage it... it too sucks! LOL

I did a 56 mile ride up through the Gap last weekend... we'll see what tomorrow holds in store... maybe a repeat if it stays dry! Message me if you ever want to coordinate a ride... always looking for people to ride with! I'm on STRAVA (http://app.strava.com/athletes/890031) if you want to see if we're close enough ability wise to make it worth your wild!!!
