In the past year, 320 film and television productions shot in the state, including several Marvel movies, Netflix's "Stranger Things" and AMC's "The Walking Dead."

“Georgia’s growth in the film industry — from $67.7 million in direct spending in FY 2007 to $2.7 billion in FY 2017 — is unprecedented, not only in production spend, but also in the amount of investment that has been made in infrastructure,” said Lee Thomas, deputy commissioner for the Georgia Department of Economic Development's Film, Music and Digital Entertainment Office, in a statement. “The unwavering commitment to this industry by Gov. Deal and the Georgia legislature has ensured Georgia’s place as a top destination for film and television.”

Sound stage complexes like Pinewood Atlanta Studios, EUE/Screen Gems Studios, Atlanta Metro Studios, Tyler Perry Studios and Blackhall Studios make it possible for so many productions to film here at once. Several other complexes were proposed within the last year, including Three Ring Studios in Covington, CineDome Studios in Chattahoochee Hills and Cinema South Studios in Fayetteville, Ga.

"Georgia is the new leader in TV and film production on the East Coast," said EUE/Screen Gems Studios Executive Vice President Kris Bagwell. "There are jobs in the production business in almost every occupation, from cook to security guard to driver to construction. This job creates tens of thousands of well paying Georgia jobs. And it's here to stay thanks to the pro-jobs agenda of Gov. Deal."

"Not only do we have incredible amounts of infrastructure, but we're starting to have discussion about home grown production companies, which I think is a missing piece of the ecosystem," said Ryan Millsap, executive chairman of the board at Blackhall Studios.

In fiscal 2016, the economic impact of the film industry was $7.2 billion, and 248 productions shot here. The direct spend last year was $2 billion.

"I'm ecstatic over the new number," said Craig Miller, executive producer at Craig Miller Productions and chair of Gov. Nathan Deal’s Georgia Film, Music and Digital Entertainment Advisory Commission. "We knew we'd hit a higher number due to to the volume of business in town. It's exciting to see how the industry continues to grow and continues to put Georgians to work. I was hoping we'd get at least $2 [additional billion] this year."

The main reason for the industry's staggering growth is the state's film incentive program, which awards up to 30 percent of what a production spends back in transferable tax credits that can then be sold on the free market. The most recent iteration of the credit was rolled out in 2008.

Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War (street sign FIGARO) is still filming on location throughout the ATL. Production has moved from south Atlanta to Woodruff Park. According to reports, the show’s main cast including Robert Downey Jr., Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Pratt should be making appearances by the middle of August.

Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is reshooting a few scenes for Thor: Ragnarok (street sign CR) in Atlanta and was spotted near Pinewood Atlanta Studios in early July.

Dynasty is ramping up production in Atlanta. Using the code-name CROSS EYE, you will want to be on the look out for the highly anticipated series filming on location in the ATL. The show has already filmed scenes near Atlantic Station and near Atlanta Mission.

Clint Eastwood is not playing any games this time around as his new movie The 15:17 to Paris (street sign KIKI) is now filming in Atlanta. This one of a kind director takes a unique approach to filmmaking and if you are able to work on the set of his new movie, this one production you do not want to miss.

TAG (street sign S&K) has just finished filming on location in John’s Creek. It was reported that actor Jeremy Renner fractured his right elbow and left wrist during a stunt on the show. He later told Variety, “That’s how it goes. It’s part of the job.”

MacGyver is back and filming their second season in Atlanta. The hit CBS TV series most recently shot scenes on Main Street in Forest Park, according to reports.

STAR (street sign SOS) is now back and filming its second season, which is expected to perform even better than the first after Fox completed major lineup changes.

Godzilla: King of Monsters (street sign FATHOM) starring Millie Bobby Brown, who is most known for Stranger Things, was last spotted in east Atlanta near Moreland Avenue earlier this month. The Walking Dead (street sign SF) was shot in Griffin, Georgia on July 18th.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Rampage (R-19), wrapped production in Doraville on July 16th. Meanwhile, AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire (street sign HCF) just finished filming their final season in July.
