Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The road quality is pretty good compared to most descents that I do. The only bad part is that there are a lot of sharp turns on that highway with no guard rail, where you can plunge 500-1000 down into the river canyon feet if you go off the road. I try not to think about it too much on the descent.

There's access to the Tule River in several spots, looked pretty nice, I think I will check it out some time.

What a great thread. Here's one from a couple years ago looking back on the road up Mt Evans in Colorado.

Riding over the 'Seven Sisters' on Ridgecrest Rd. to the East Peak of Mt. Tamalpais. Fog and 25 mph winds notwithstanding, a beautiful ride on the western edge of the new world.

So true! So many of the photos in this thread remind me why riding can be a powerful spiritual experience.

If you're into that sorta thing....
