How much does this Specialized Allez Sport 2001 worth? (PICS)

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How is this Specialized Allez Sport 2002 worth? (PICS)

I bought this 58cm Specialized Allez Sport 2002 road bike used for $500 but the condition is excellent! No dents but a few minor paint chips but nothing major. Here are the wonderful pictures!

Oh yeah, and carbon seatpost, and fork. rear shimano 105 derailleur, Look pedals, its a 9 speed road bike and umm cheap alex rims. free lifetime tuneup at the bike shop

What do you think this bike cost? Did I get a deal? Comments?

Thanks!

I just sold a much nicer bike than that for $600. Still, that's a nice bike. Welds look pretty.

Looks great! Maybe not the best deal but not the worst, especially with the aero bars and LBS tune ups.

The paint job looks a lot better than what the new ones look like IMHO.

I love this bike so far.

I could sell the aerobars out for $60 so it'll be like $440 for the bike.

If you are happy that is what is important. It looks nice. Go out and ride, and never post a pic unless you are ready to hear something negative. It could be a $4000 bike that you payed $500 for and someone will tell you to flip the stem, raise the seat and change the color of the handlebar tape.

Then you shouldnt need to worry about the price....... would you enjoy it any less if we told you that you paid too much?? Would you enjoy it more if we said you got a deal....

Bottom line.....you have a bike...... now HTFU and ride it already.

That's my "spare" bike these days. Like another poster, I think I paid ~$700 for it brand-new.

One of my shifters died around 2005, and I had to replace the rear wheel a year later. Otherwise I'm still happy with the ride.

then you shouldnt be fishing for compliments.

imho $500 is a bit much for a 8 year old entry level bike. but if you're happy it shouldnt matter one bit

Bingo.

But truely, there IS rust all over that bike. I would strip the bike to its bare frame, check grease on all bearings, and basically give it a good once over. That bike looks like its been sitting outside based on the grime and the rust.

I would say you did marginal at best.

X2

I'm pretty anal about maintenance; so a bike like that would get a tire rotation, complete over-haul, and the rusted bolts would get a drip in oxalic acid to eat up the rust. Overall $500 bucks for something that rolls is fine. Just ride it. You purchased a bike during the spring / summer season, so deals are going to be hard to find. Plus when you take into account the cost of wheels ever 2,000 miles or so, and brakes, and cables, chains, etc, it all ads up quickly.

Enjoy it and stop worrying about how much you paid.

So why are you asking how much it's worth if you don't care?

Just go ride it
