Selecting a new bike
Hi. I began biking about two years ago using a Huffy Backwater (MTB). It is time for a new bike and have narrowed the choice down to a Jamis Allegro 3 or Coda Comp. Jamis is my company of choice for specific reasons - all good. My past riding and future riding can be described as follows: Past riding includes tours of 12, 18, and 27 miles(all on the Huffy!). I would like to work my way up to a 50 mile and then a century. This summer I am participating in a duathlon consisting of 2mi run/12 bike/2mi run. Both bikes seem to work for my situation, but the Coda Comp is steel and a little bit heavier than the Allegro. I am concerned the extra weight may be a disadvantage on longer tours and some low mileage duathlons. Am I putting too much emphasis and concern on the weight of the bike? The Comp may provide me with extra comfort. I am 50+ and in excellent shape. I am leaning towards the Allegro because its description seems to fit my needs. Your help is appreciated
