IMO, no. The CAAD series is one of the few frames that does everything well - in that price range.

Your four grandparents will give you a better idea of height in your family than one person. Each generation is also generally taller than the previous, but there are always exceptions. The uncertainty of your final height is a 2nd reason to wait on top of knowing you will grow more.

I'm with ya, unfortunatly the lbs that fitted me on a 08 Caad9 5, wont return my calls on ordering an 09' white 52cm. I dont want to drive an hour away to next closest C'dale dealer so I'm tempted to buy online. I really want to buy local though. I'm pretty disappointed in the lbs.

ljrichar 06-07-09 08:33 AM

I vote black. Here's my 50 (I'm 5'6" but not growing anymore) w/ 09 Rival.

So for me, 5'5, actual inseam of 28.5, 15 years old, should i get a 50 or a 52

ljrichar 06-07-09 08:50 AM

I know there is a chain of stores near you (Raleigh/Durham/CH) that carries Cannondale. Call & see who has what, then go do some test rides. I'd go a little bigger if you're going to grow in the next few years.

Re your inquiry about frame size vs. inseam: I'm 5'8" with a 30.5" inseam and got a 52, if that helps as a general guide (and assuming my LBS did the right job when they fitted me; I think they did). I have a CAAD9 5, great bike, bone stock except for Thomson stem and seat post, and that includes the San Marco Ponza saddle. Suggest in your case a 50 cm might be a little more suitable right now, however as mentioned before, at your age you probably still have some growing to do. If you decide to pull the trigger on a new bike be sure to let the LBS do a fitting. Another thought: Since the CAAD9 frame features a semi-sloping top tube you might be able to get away with a 52 and grow into it. Talk to the LBS and see what they think. BTW if your Dad wants to adopt me.....

Yep, "The Bike Chain" is where i will be buying it from. I will have to special order it though.

And im just like ??? no wonder the average american child's mind is compromised.

The training wheels are 24H Velocity Deep V Bright Silver non machined on Power Tap. I am assuming you are talking about them since the Zipps are so overtly stickered. :roflmao2:

In that case you probably should start with a 50 first.

Mr.jon 06-07-09 01:39 PM

Blarg. I went to the bike shop today to drop the hammer and buy one. They are going to call up cannondale tomorrow to try and get a black 50cm caad9-5 for me.

kayakdiver 06-07-09 02:13 PM

Don't know what Blarg means... have to check with my daughter who is older than you :)

Congrats on making a decision!

FWIW, I'm 5'5 with a 29" inseam. I bought a 52cm, swapped out the stock seatpost for a zero setback, and went from a 100mm stock stem to a 90mm. The fit feels real good, especially when in the drops.

Im sorry, FWIW?

While on point, what is MUP?

Your only 15? I would advise you to buy a used bike for half that or less. Go as big as you can so that you don't outgrow it too fast. One that you'll be happy with for 4-5 years until you stop growing.

Either way, make sure dad is gifting you the money, no strings. Your obviously the best judge of him, but I know friends that had cars "given" to them in HS, but the parents would take it away or restrict use.

I agree with this. Go used for now, and get something nice when you stop growing.

Your size shouldn't be difficult to find. If you're 5'5", I say look for the 52 or 53 size for most brands. If it feels slightly large for you when you test ride it, that can probably be adjusted out with a shorter stem and adjustment to the saddle position.

Also don't forget the cost of all the other crap you need like shorts and shoes if you don't have these already.

Edit: MUP = Multi-use path. it's kind of like a glorified sidewalk. Sometimes also referred to as a hike and bike trail. Riding at speed on these is generally considered a party foul, as there's usually lots of pedestrian traffic.

Mr.jon 06-07-09 03:33 PM

I have shorts, shoes, ect, ect. Maybe i should get a bikesdirect bike? There aren't many used bikes in this area.

That's not a terrible idea if you're comfortable assembling and tuning it yourself, or can get a shop to do it.

mike868y 06-07-09 04:08 PM

Dude, just get the Caad9. Your obviously motivated to ride it and really want it. I know a lot of people say its a big purchase for a 15 year old, but if you have the cash and are willing to spend it, then do. If it is going to make you want to ride more than a questionable quality bd bike, then don't even hesitate. Ya its a big hunk of change, but if you use it almost every day even for just 2 years, it is worth it imo. Plus if you keep it in god shape, you can sell it when you outgrow it.

But it sounds like you may want the 52, not the 50...

s4one 06-07-09 04:11 PM

great dad, we gotta appreciate their help.

Or you aren't looking in the right places. Where there are new bikes there are used bikes. I just PM'd you one I found for sale in 3 minutes.

Mr.jon 06-07-09 04:27 PM

IDK, i think i might just get the 52 cm caad9-5, i will be riding it every day in the summer minus a day a week for rest. We shall see.

Mr.jon 06-07-09 04:28 PM

Oh wow, that is cheap, i made a thread earlier about 5 vs 6 vs 7 and everyone said go for the 5, but for that price i may need to look into that more. (found a caad9-6 for very cheap semi locally..)

steveymcdubs 06-07-09 04:34 PM

I'd get a larger size since there's no doubt you'll grow.
