Selle SMP PRO saddle
does anybody have the experience of riding a selle smp pro saddle? it is really that comfortable? i currently have the specialized avatar gel 143 mm and i still experience numbness just after 4 miles. i'm thinking of getting the smp pro but the width is 148 mm. it might be too wide for me. thanks in advance!

as always: find a shop that will let you test ride saddles and exchange if necessary. its worth the extra few bucks for the saddle to not have unused saddles sitting in your parts bin.
what works for some will not work for others. |
i have a selle smp pro on one bike.
i have a toupe gel 143 on another bike. they both work extremely well. for me. |
Selle SMP has a full line-up of basically the same saddle in different sizes. So the Pro model is 148mm wide, but they the other models are essentially the same saddle at a different width.
From widest to narrowest (Evolution -> Carbon are all 129mm width, with other differences) Plus Avant Pro Lite 209 Glider Stratos Evolution Composit Carbon I went from the Avatar 143 to the Evolution but I did need a narrower saddle....and I would perhaps be quite comfortable on the Stratos or Glider too. I haven't had a chance to try them. -Jeremy |

Where they are really good and do perform as advertised is in the cutout. Before I learned to get my weight off my backside and onto my legs I used to have a few numbness issues, and the SMP did a great job of relieving those. |

i was at a bike shop shopping for handlebars and the owner told me to try out one that was on a fitting rig. when i got on it the saddle instantly felt like it fit perfectly, turns out it was an SMP, you may have a different experience but it fit me so well i had to find out what it was after i got off. the SMP comes in a bunch of different widths but they're all the same basic shape, try one that fits your sitbones |
I tried one the other day. I had to move it all the way as far forward as I could and I still found it too far back. The seat itself was great, but I just didn't find it comfy to ride like that.

I have a SMP Plus and it works for me. It puts the pressure on the sit bones and not the soft tissue which is what I wanted. I have used it for about six months and have no complaints.

I love mine. i was having alot of trouble with the pressure from a normal seat and actually ended up with an epydidimal cyst (maybe too much info for you), but i HAD to switch to a different saddle and did alot of reading on different ones. This saddle really distributes the pressure to your sitbones and doesn't cut off circulation like other seats do or put pressure where you dont want it. You do need to make some adjustments on it to find the best position but the saddle has worked great for me since i bought it 2 years ago. I tried another bike with a normal saddle a few weeks ago and i could only ride for like 10 miles before it was starting to hurt me from pressure in the wrong spot.
