Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cheap Wheelset - Fuzion F1

Not a shill, but i've been looking for a somewhat lighter weight wheelset and was comparing Soul, Bicycle Wheel Warehouse, and a few other budget offerings.

Last week on eBay I found the Fuzion F1s for $259 (same price as on their website) and it appears to be sold by Williams Cycling (their cheapest wheelset is close to $500). Looks like a generic hub, Kinlin alloy 27mm rims and generic spokes.

Was searching last night and they're blowing them out for $160 shipped, looks like it's only through the eBay seller (which looks like it's Williams). No idea on the quality but if they're a lower line of Williams, i'm assuming they should be relatively decent?

I ordered a set and will post a review once I try them out. After Bing (Live) cashback, they were something like $148 shipped for a wheelset with a claimed weight under 1700g including rim tape and skewers.

Here's a quick review, I didn't have a scale to weigh these on (no hook or hanging scale) so I can't comment much about the claimed weight.

The wheels looked fine, they were packaged well, arrived within about a week or so. They feel lighter and more responsive than my Aksiums, although i've only ridden about 50miles on these so far. Tires were relatively easy to mount, other than that, no issues, no flats, no problems with the wheels staying true (it's only 50 miles after all).

The wheelset itself appears well-made, they're not as light or responsive as EA70s, but then again for the price I wasn't expecting them to be. Not much else to say about them, they appear to work, they're reasonably light, and at the price they make a great spare wheelset. Spokes turned out to be black (in the picture they looked like they might be silver).

Considering that this looks like the "budget" line of Williams, it seems like a real bargain. Not sure how they'd compare to the Forte/Neuvation wheels that cost slightly less from Performance. Overall i'm pretty happy with these. I'll post again if I notice anything worth commenting on after riding them for a couple hundred miles.

Anyone have anything else to say about these? I'm considering picking up a pair at their "sale" price of $175.

Since they come with skewers and bar tape pre-installed, and seem to be manufactured by Williams Cycling, I'm thinking they'd make a better pair of beater wheels than Forte Titans.

I've done a bit of research on these wheels and the Forte Titans myself. There are numerous other threads on the wheelsets on the forums if you search. It's still a toss up for me. They seem to be relatively similar wheelsets, they are both 27mm, semi lightweight wheels. One difference I've noted has been the 16/20 spokes on the Titans vs. the 20/24 spokes on the F1. The weight seems to be very similar, even though the Fuzion's say they are roughly 100g's lighter, it appears from the reviews that in actuality they are about 100g's more than advertised which would put them almost spot on with the Titans weight, maybe a touch more. I haven't heard much on the bearings, but would figure they would be of comparable qualities. The Titans and dealing with Performance would definitely have better customer service should anything go wrong, I've heard Fuzion isn't the best place to deal with customer service wise. So yeah, either one seems to be a decent budget wheelset for a training wheel from what I've seen. Just my $.02.
