Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Can Anyone Reach Mike Garcia?

I have not been able to reach Mike Garcia since May 30th. I sent him my powertap to be rebuilt on May 20th, and he finally called me on May 30th to say that he was getting some spokes the following week and would callback for credit card details. That was over three weeks ago. I call every day and leave voice mails, emails, anything to get a reply. I am a Cat 3 racer who trains with power and don't own a bunch of wheels to take the place of my training PT wheel that I sent to him to rebuild. Unfortunately, I don't know where to turn as he has my wheel and will not callback. Anyone go through a similar situation with Mike Garcia? How did you finally reach him? I'd be happy if he just sent my PT hub back at this point and made the request in email, as well. If anyone has his ear, please help me reach him!

- Dave

Never dealt with him but I understand he provides good service @ a fair price. Two complaints I see in postings (1) He is a bit methodical/slow & (2) He is hard to get a hold off. Some BF members have been in same situation. Have not seen anyone posting complaints about non-return of their money & or equipment.

Good Luck

He built my first PT wheel last year, so I returned to him as he did a great build. However, 3 wks without a callback or email reply is strange....I'm getting pretty worried and hope that someone on the forums can call his personal cell/home phone to help me! I'm so frustrated, but I don't know what to do as I need that hub back built or unbuilt, don't care, just want it back now.

Fixed it .

Based of what I've seen on the forums, Mr. Garcia is rather notorious of late for being rather slow to return phone calls and email. He gets the job done, but seems to take his own sweet time doing it.

And people continue to give him business?

I spoke with him maybe two or three weeks ago and he said he's closed down for now. He said he's either going to declare bankruptcy or figure out some financing and said he hoped to have it settled in the next 30 to 60 days.

Good luck on getting product returned or obtaining a refund from someone who files bankruptcy.

^ woah, bad news. Hopefully spooky is just messin' with us.

I had a set of mtn bike wheels built up back in 2007. Promptly built and delivered. I've been watching threads lately that talk about lack of response and have been getting a bad feeling. Not good. Not good at all.

I'm not kidding.

I've had all my custom wheels built by him over the past 6 or so years. Every pair has been perfect and the price can not be beat.

I was calling to get a powertap quote and that's when I got the news straight from Mike.

Are you serious? Mike Garcia told you that he is declaring bankruptcy? ....he still has my PT!! I'm so pissed...If I don't get it back, I'll make sure everyone knows my story. That's some serious bad luck for me.

I am sorry to hear this...

I know what it is like to be without power when training...

I had blow out from over heating a rim when descending on my PT wheel...

Mushed the side of the rim, ruining the wheel...

Came home in tears...

Pleaded with the wife...

Got myself a new PT wheel from Excel Sport in 5 days...

If you can afford, get a spare...

Even if it is used on a Mavic 32h rim...

Guess crappy customer service finally caught up to Mike.

To the OP.. best of luck getting your PT back. I recommend you send him a fax. That was the only way I was ever able to get a response out of him.

Well, from talking to him, you are way off target, but I agree, his CS was pretty bad/slow.

Being in bankruptcy doesn't mean you stop working and watch tv or mail back your PT or return phone calls. What it means he can't order spokes, rims, and hubs on credit because he probably hasn't paid them in the past and they won't ship and he has no money to pay in advance. I like this guy but I don't like ZERO customer service. This has been his way for years.

Depends on the type of bankruptcy. If it's full Chpt. 7, then he has absolutely ZERO motivation to do anything whatsoever for his former customers. The business is closed. Anything that was on order will never be shipped. Any work that was promised will never be finished.

That said, OP's powertap belongs to the OP and bankruptcy doesn't change that. He is legally entitled to have it returned to him, even if it's in pieces in a box. He may have to file a claim with the bankruptcy court to get it back, though.
