Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

hi-would be much obliged for some tech know how on this-heard a mixed bag from different folks and being as I normally ride fixed I'm clueless when it comes to gears but the weather being good I'm planning on doing some touring round the bountiful selection of whisky distilleries here so throwing together some bits and pieces I've harvested-8 spd mirage ergos, 10 spd centaur chainset, and I've got some nice mavic rims on ultegra hubs that are gathering dust so I'd like to put them to use. Frame is a mint condition dolan frame I picked up on the cheap but would make a nice fast tourer, at least before the whisky kicks in

thanks

what matters is the shifters, the rear derailer and the cassette. if those are all 8 speed, it'll work ok. Campy 8 and Shimano 8 are slightly different (I think?) but are workable.

or buy one of these.

Thanks very much for that-appreciated... Hoping the transition to gears will be a smooth one. That little gadget for making shimano/campag compatable is genius-I might buy one just to see how much of a difference it makes.

Happy cycling.
