Specialized Road Tubes
 

After reading responses on another post, I checked with every lbs in erie and niagara counties (western new york).
No one carries Specialized tubes.
I contacted Specialized figuring they'd either have a ordering system or know which shops carried their products.
Their response: "We suggest you call around".
So; I'm asking: Anyone know of shops (preferably outside new york because if I have to pay shipping I sure as hell don't want to pay NYS sales tax too)which stock Specialized Road tubes (18-23 700 series with the 48/56mm stem)whom I can order from.

any reason you want specialized brand tubes? They seem to hold air well, but I haven't seen a difference in specialized tubes versus other brands that would make it worth going out of your way to get them, especially because they are quite expensive.

It seems that most Specialized dealers won't ship. I was going to put you in touch with my LBS but noticed that even for the tubes it shows that shipping isn't available? In NY, but R&A Cycles in Brooklyn has them, bought some the other day.

Why Specialized
 

From all reports the valve stems are vastly superior to a lot of long aero style valves out on the market and seem a bit more durable without the weight penalty.
The bike came with Kenda 18-23s oem and I had stem problems from the get go.
Most of the lBS sell generic brand (or at best Bontrager)tubes. The rolling difference with generics was noticible.
Figured IF Specialized were available I'd give em a try.

Advanced Cyclery (www.cnybikes.com) sells them if you are ever in the Syracuse area you could stop in and pick them up. Not sure if you could have them ship or not, I've never tried.

My LBS carries them and that is what I have been running for 2 year until I bought a scale. They are 100g each! I am going to switch to something in the 70g range (most normal high quality tubes are about 70g) for an easy 60g savings. Granted I have NEVER had a flat with them that wouldn't happen to another tube (ran over a tack, had a blowout from bad tire, ect) or ever had any valve problems but they are pretty bulky.

My LBS sells them for $5.99 + NYS Sales tax. If you want me to buy some and ship them to you I can.

I run specialized tubes, they seem durable and hold air well. My LBS sells specialized tubes for the same as Jynx $6.00.

The Bontrager std. tubes I run in the paramount ((700x18-25)run 98 grms.
The Specialized I was interested in were the light weight long valve ones.
I have to admit it. I never gave much thought to all the hoopla about lightweight tubes untill I spent a week with the 98grm bontragers (threaded stem) on the CF motobecane. The Kendas that came with the wheelsets are the lightweight jobs (blue stripe red cap)and I simply was hoping to check out the specialized vs other brands.
Specialized never mentioned I could order thru them (huh!) but at $10 a pop (plus shipping)I'd have passed.

Suppose now would be as good a time as any to get a cross section of what you folks run on your road bikes?(especially tube wise)
This has been a wet season up here in the northeast and the road hash has been really bad.
Any day after a decent rain I usually run the Paramount with the vittoria rubino pros. They definitely are sturdier than the kenda kalientes. I've got about 800 miles on the kalientes (sence new) and they're letting everything in but the kitchen sink.
They are a light fast tire tho and the payback is a ride that requires a hell of a lot less energy expended (over a 50+ mile ride -especially in windy conditions). I suspect the stiffness of the CF bb plays a large part along with the lightweight wheelset.
