Help with Shamal wheels
Ok so this guy I work with at a Ducati shop has a 90's litespeed with full record and two wheel sets. He informed one is a shamal set and I have always loved the deep aluminum wheels. But here is the problem:
All my bike are shimano. Is it a big problem? Could I ride them? I know mixing the two is killer but besides that. What would a good price to pay for them? I've never seen a set for sale before just front wheels. any help is greatly appreciated. Also he said he would sell the bike with both wheel sets for 2k....I'm not looking for a new bike but how does that sound? |
j-tek shiftmate for mixing shimano to campy.
how much they cost? I've no clue. |
American Classic makes a conversion cassette with Shimano spacing that fits a Campy freehub.
The Eurus/Shamal wheels are excellent, btw. Not the lightest, but extremely durable. |
Probably you wont even need the j-mate... put the wheel as it is, it might shift fine, but you will lose one or two cogs. You need to set the rd limits again, this is sort of critical.
You can buy a campagnolo freehub thingy with a shimano pattern. Swap it, done. Look at the web, i have see them. Smart move from campy anyways. Thanks...Uman. |
thanks for the help guys.
And i know they are heavy. they are 90's aluminum aero wheels. but they are clean. I guess I'll just ask to ride them first and see how it goes |
I have one of the American Classic cassettes Ill let go cheap. Its never been ridden. If you decide to go that way, drop me a PM.

Love my (2008) Shamals! That's all I got (info, not wheels).
|
Dump the Shimano $%!+ and put a Campagnolo gruppo on it. Leave the wheels alone. The lowest Campagnolo gruppo (Veloce) is much better than the best Shimano (Dara Ace) anyhow.
|
I have the poor man's Shamals--- the Ventos, on one of my more vintage projects--- and they are great wheels.
|
thanks for some input guys. just to clarify they are the shamals from the mid 90's I think.
|
Check whether it is currently Campagnolo 8 or 9/10 speed. I think your best bet would be to run the original Campagnolo cassette with the shiftmate for whatever Shimano speed you happen to have - most conversion cassettes will be for the Campagnolo 9/10 speed hubs which have a different spline design.
