Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

zona, that'd be the backup plan.

Exhibitix, that's correct. Also, the reason that I wanted a clip system.
They were cheap enough on icycles that I just bought two instead of additional mounts (check their pricing, they're blowing them out it seems, so you can't really go wrong). I think have the Roller bag. I can fit a tube, levers, and couple of CO2 cartridges. I leave the tool and my multitool in my Jersey pockets.

the smallest ortlieb mudracer is very nice.

just enough space for one tube, multi tool, co2 16g, small co2 inflator and patches. it is a hard shell case with a rubber skirt over the zipper and keeps the contents 100% dry. i did not like other bags that allowed moisture in by exposing the zipper.

i bought it with a second bracket to switch between 2 bikes.

Just be careful with the SciCon clip system- mine broke at the bag on the first ride. The clip itself is sturdy and holds well enough, but the attachment to the bag is weak. With two tubes, CO2/inflator, mini tool and a few small bits, it was too heavy and broke off the tabs holding the bag to the clip.

I have the Elan, but find it to be too small for long rides in remote areas. I stick with the Serfas medium saddle bag with the velcrom strap that goes all the way around the seat rails. I don't trust any of the quick release clip systems now.

I have to say I just got this Trek branded bag. Called the Draftpack. Saw it at a local bike shop. It intrigued me so I bought it. Have liked it so far. Easy on and off and stays out of the way of my ginormous legs . All I keep in it though is a tube and small flat repair kit.

It's packed and bulging, but when strapped under the saddle it's on tight and never moves.

He said he wants to carry "few patches, CO2 inflator, maybe a spare cartridge, and a tire lever or two." If you crash hard enough to put a patch or inflator in your back, that's the least of your worries

Bring back the micro.... I should have bought two!
Funny you should say that because the picture wasn't exactly what I bought...I must have the micro version too. It's been discontinued?

Well, on the off chance that it doesn't actually have to be a "bag," you could try the Simple Strap, reviewed here: https://www.bikerumor.com/2009/05/19/...-simple-strap/

Certainly some potential problems with this, but if parsimony is what you're after, this would do the trick.

If you have or are contemplating a Fizik saddle, they have these. They clip into the back of the saddle.

I started to get the teeniest bag I could get to and didn't. I forget exactly which one I got but I carry the following:

(1) tube
(1) small patch kit
(1) Innovations Proflator (with cylinder reverse installed)
(2) Extra CO2 cylinders (for a total of 3)
(3) Park tire levers
(1) small multitool
(1) extra car key
(1) copy of drivers license

It sounds like a lot but I like being prepared. On Saturday's century I passed out two cartridges to guys with flats (and still would have had one left for myself). Ok, so it was a couple of bucks but the goodwill is priceless.

Thats what I intend to carry, minus a tube!

I don't intend to switch to fizik saddles, though their system is interesting.

Dscott, I imagine my load would be a bit easier on the clip system, hopefuly it'd hold up better than it did in your case.

You will have lots of room without the tube. But why no tube? Easy replace it and patch it when you get home.

Well, the idea was to trim weight & size, and I was under the impression that I'd be able to find a saddle bag small enough that a tube wouldn't fit. Given that they all hold what I wanted to carry plus a tube, I may just throw one in for good measure.
*knock on wood* I've never gotten a flat on the road, yet I've worn through a couple tires. I'm careful about avoiding stuff, and the roads where I ride are reasonably clean.
I'm not riding thick heavy tires either, my road bike is on michelin race tires.

This Topeak bag is what I use, and is closest to the other Topeak you mentioned.

I wound up with the SCI-CON Phantom 230, and the extra clip piece.
We'll see if it's small enough

I have that Scicon 230cc bag and the 480cc bag that I use for solo rides. The smaller 230cc bag is great. It fits a spare tube, the Topeak 68 gram mini-tool, tube patches, and with room to spare. They do sell extra clips (I added one to my girlfriends bike so we can interchange bags). I love their system, makes it easy to take them on and off, and they are very aesthetically pleasing. My brother has the 430cc bag and has no complaints. By the way the 480cc fits everything that is in the 230cc plus Blackberry cell phone, keys, and also has room to spare.
