Wow, Speedplays, what a difference.
Rode today on my new X2 Speedplays and what a difference vs my old look pedals. Absolutely no knee pain. Only rode about 32 miles because of horrible high winds here in So Cal but very pleasant riding on the Speedplays.

I've been using Speedplay FROGS on all my bikes for several years now. Congrats on your choice of X2. I would probably use them, but I like to get off the bike once in awhile to walk around.

I just finished a little project that may have solved the problem of using metal surface mounted cleats on road shoes. I mentioned it in a thread on my Egg Beater pedals. I used Shoe Goo to build up lugs or pontoons on either side of the cleats to I can walk on them withough the cleats touching the ground. After several applications to build sufficient height and and the weekend for the Shoe Goo to cure, I just put the cleats on this morning. Walking is fine as is clicking in and out. I will ride them this afternoon and give a further report later. I won't go into suggestions here but if anyone is interested in some ideas let me know. I've got ideas how to do it better next time.

Rainman,
I hate to be the one to bring this up but you know someone eventually will. About how much weight are you adding by adding the pontoons? |

There are also special pads that can be put on road shoes to protect them while walking. Speedplay makes some. There are probably others as well.
