Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Any numbness nuggets ?

Am looking to buy a decent saddle so I can still feel my fella after a frantic forty.
Was looking at the Koobi Enduro and the rather strange Adamo saddles to see me through five hours a week (if I'm lucky) and do for the occasional tri. Age 44.
Thanks for any advice

saddles are a very personal thing....what works for one, may be an ass hatchet for another....I have found the Toupe to be my saddle of choice....others swear by Fizik's or Brooke's...try to find a LBS that will let you try one until you get one that works for you!!

Specialized and bontrager can measure your sit bones and recommend a saddle from that. So go to a shop that sells their wares.

Other than that, SLR's are good if you have narrow sit bones, and Regal's tend to be favored by a ton of people.

Really it's a journey because different things work for different people. You won't know until you try. Then when you find what works you buy the hell out of them.

I have a personal theory that the general cycling population can find a saddle that fits well in one of three camps. Specialized, fizik, or the flaties. Flaties include slle San Marco and selle italia.

Brooks works great too if you consider the word "whippersnapper" a part of you vocabulary or have considered that you might be happier on a recumbent. Grey bbeard reqd.

i've tried a slew of saddles and the toupe is by far the 'taint friendliest. only thing close was a koobi au chrono. it's very minimalist and looks like an ass hatchet extraordinaire. but everyone searching for a saddle should try one. buy a used one on ebay. you can always resale it there for what you paid.

I've read a few posts praising the Toupe for being perineum friendly but some of those post have also said it's not so friendly on the sit bones (width of seat might be the issue there). Are you getting off the saddle every few minutes on the ride to relieve the numbness?

Fizik Aliante works great for me even on 100 mile rides.

Sit bone pain won't do any damage. You get used to it.

Koobi Enduro = zero numbness. Yes, the sit bones will hurt at first because that is where all of the weight goes. Which after all is the goal.
