Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Opinions on benefits compression tops

From what I've read on here public opinion on benefits of compression tights is skeptical (I happen to be a user and a believer) but was wondering if anybody thinks compression tops are of any use for cyclists. I'm thinking not, seeing as how the upper body doesn't really get a workout except a bit for the arms where you hang on to the handlebars.

Yuck. UA sent some of their cold gear for us to test up at the survival school and none of us liked it. Tugged on arm hairs and uncomfortable with outer layers. We were issued some of the heat gear and loose gear by Uncle Sam, most of us DIDN'T like the tight stuff and most DID like the loose gear.

I swear by them as a base layer in the WINTER.

I will also use the lightest UnderArmour compression top beneath a jersey on days when it is a little cool/<60F. Excellent for moisture wicking.

Skins. I bought a pair of Diadora and found they were crap, didn't fit as well as Skins. 2XU are supposed to be good as well, Australian Institute of Sport use them as do Cervelo Test Team.

Interesting. 60deg F isn't that cold though. I use a L/S Polypropylene thermal base layer when it gets cold (er). There's probably cheaper baselayer garments to use rather than a compression top (if you aren't using it for it's compression benefits).

I like the Skins ad they've had on SBS during the Tour the last 2 or so years.

Skins Ad:- You won't find any famous athletes on this ad, we do not pay people to use our equipment, they can keep paying us!

Seriously though, won't wearing compression pants without a top cause capillary bottle knecks above the femur? A bit like the Intel Southbridge bottle neck.
