Mavic Aksiums on $3K bikes??

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

And if you're going to post something, you don't get to ask who responds to it, so you just have to deal. (removed by mod).
This is the response of a mod? I get warnings for less.

I bought a $3k bike and didn't have a wheelset for it. I'm sure the majority of people who do buy a $3k bike don't either.

I'm older than you junior so if I want a kid throwing a tantrum and has mod powers, I'll ask you.

My new TT frame is BB30 but I am getting the sleeve for standard. I would love to just use the BB30 but I cannot see spending on a whole new crankset when I have a perfectly good DA one.

I honestly never would've guessed it based on your most recent and past posts. Anyway, I've removed the tail end of my response because you're right--it was uncalled for.

I think they're brilliant. External bottom brackets are gimmicky. What a stupid idea that was.

The weight differences are astounding, and by many accounts they're even stiffer. My next group is gonna be 2010 Force probably, simply because of the BB30. 2097 versus 1951 grams. Shaving 146 grams off an already lightweight crankset simply by changing the spindle size, is incredible. What's not to love?

In theory, they should be stiffer. But I guarantee you I could go out to the hardware store and cobble together a BB that meets all the standards of BB30, but is still about as stiff as a blade of grass.

A high end Octalink or Hollowtech II BB will probably be stiffer than a low end BB30. Just because it's BB30 doesn't automatically make it lighter and stiffer, you still have to engineer it well.

My outside diameter is pretty large and I'm not too stiff at all.

My tarmac does not have an external bottom bracket, they are pressed into the shell. The whole crankset including bottom bracket is about 600g.

That's a better idea. I like that. Is that a BB90/86/84 type system like the Trek Madone? They definitely look slicker, I know that. Still has a 24mm spindle though, right?

It's a BB30 bottom bracket, whatever the dimensions are I could not tell you. But the bearings are in that beefy shell. On my old TCR the shell was much narrower and I had had an external GXP bottom bracket.

Right, that's a normal BB30. The bearings are inside the shell, and the spindle is 30mm instead of the old 24mm.
